TLDR

The chart shows Boomers dominating wealth like a monopoly game they won decades ago—leaving younger generations playing catch-up.

Details

Boomers’ wealth growth has been explosive, leaving younger generations far behind.

Growth Gap: Boomers’ wealth line shoots up, adding $70T since 2000, while Gen X grows slower, and Millennials barely get going after 2010, stuck under $15T. Silent Generation is already fading. Boomers rode the tech boom, cheap housing, and stock gains, while younger gens hit recessions, debt, and inflation.

They Own It All: Boomers now hold 52% of U.S. wealth—over half—while Gen X has 26% and Millennials just 9%, despite being bigger in number. Boomers own most stocks and large homes, while younger gens face sky-high housing and education costs.

What’s Next: Even with retirements and the “Great Wealth Transfer,” the gap won’t close fast. Millennials and Gen Z face student debt, stagnant wages, and weaker job security. The youth of today need to really focus on wealth building as capital allocators. The early years are critical and the youth have advantage of time... ask any boomer what they would pay to get time back!

It’s hard not to hate boomers as a generation, they took everthing and burned all the bridges behind them. When they get to the other side their WW2 parents may woop their ass ! This generation was given everthing but gave nothing,

Wake up. The boomers had nothing to do with implementing the Great Society and the Immigration Reform Act of 1965. Neither are they responsible for Nixon's action of taking us off of the gold standard or the formation of the FED. These 4 are the greatest causes of the destruction of our society as we knew it.

Obsolete Man

Boomers. Work ethic. Damn them!

I'm a 1947 model, hate on me if it makes you feel better... I took life easy. I began working on farms and in the bush with Dad who was felling trees... I was aged 10. I was sick of working 12+ hours a day by 25, and started travelling the world, lived a life of adventure, occasionally acquired wealth, but I always blew it. At 70 started buying BTC, lost it with BlockFi debacle. Started again saving a little out of my old age pension and now have enough to live out my life in Sth East Asia. I worked 7 days a week until 3 years ago, I'm now 78.

The boomers pay almost all of the gov debt. For now. Not sure who to lay the education scam on, i mean, how hard is it to do a RIO prior to embarking in that American Studies degree? Add to the fact universities don't have the corner on knowledge anymore, all books and courses are available for free online. Before the year 2000 you basically had to go to a class to really learn complex subjects but now they are all available for free on the internet. Additionally, investing in assets, TA, research, was not really available to the average person until the mid 90's. Even mutual funds were not really a thing until the mid to late 80's

Mellenials and gen z; this is exactly your problem. Blame game, poor work ethic. Boomers at least worked their ass off, and their parents wiped their ass if they whined like you do. You’re about to inherit the greatest transfer of wealth in history, and you are about to experience the greatest growth in GDP driven by bots and AI. Now quit whining, get to work, live within your means, and invest your savings, whining will get you no where.

I'm sure the generation before you talked the same smack about your generation. Forget about different economic paradigms, right?. It's like saying a person born a hundred years in the future can't accumulate 1,000 Bitcoin because they're not working hard enough. Stop with the generation bashing. Stagnate wages means less disposable income to invest.

Problem is Millennials and Gen Z are trying to copy what worked for the boomers. University degree and buy a house. That no longer works. Investing in bitcoin and now AI and starting your own business is what they should be doing.

JobberWokker

Boomers have had 20-30 more years to grow and compound their wealth than we Gen Xs. Most of the compounding happens in the last years. In 20 years our graph will look the same.

And real estate investing. My parents bought their house for 6 potatoes and 10 raspberries. Now the same house costs 1,000,000 USD. Yet the younguns are still told real estate investing is the way to go.

Yiha

I will not. You need to have stuff and most do not own. Lot are living paycheck to paycheck. My generation, millennial, are screwed. Gen z is even more screwed than my generation

CandyCoated

Well, not the Boomer that's related to us. Pfft.
