I’m pretty sure that with the help of AI, I could sit a child down today and make them learn at least twice as much in a quarter of the time.

However, I’m also fairly certain that the vast majority of children in the United States would fail this exam. While the math section is quite easy, many of the other parts are impressively well-rounded yet surprisingly difficult.

Sit your kid down with this exam and see how good their education is.

All that, then off to work in the coal mine for 10 hrs. 90% of the folks here getting triggered by the 3rd Grammar question.

I find the education system severely lacking these days. I would also say however (as an educator) that far more ground has to be covered than in 1912. Agreed with James that this is a well rounded paper. At the same time, credit where credit is due, I bet our modern kids would excel in many things that their 1912 counterparts could not - IF given the chance. The education system on a whole is antiquated and fails to take advantage of the incredible boost that modern tools can give us (IMHO it is too much one way or the other, no balance). To much money being thrown at education companies who don't give a s*** and not enough accountability in government. Yadda, Yadda. It's depressing. Teachers all too quickly underestimate students ability and "dumb down" lessons - I see it often and it drives me mad.

Almost the whole page is full of stuff that is useless knowledge. Sad to see schools still doing the same thing 100 years later.

Genuine q: Can someone from US pls explain Why is / was so important for children to know who "discovered" a river, an ocean? Many of the questions seem like an empty knowledge... Thank you!

I agree with much of what you wrote but having a hard time thinking of what a modern day 8th grade student would excel at over the 1912 student; excluding technology

Guessing the kids of that era would have been taught these things in the curriculum, whereas not so relevant today?

people in the comments saying this is useless information. civil government, grammar, and physiology are all important subjects for base-line well-rounded individuals. most people today could not explain the difference between a democracy and a republic. this is reflected in the general public's convoluted world political views. majority of the time, they don't even understand what they're advocating for.
