Don probably has a problem with something else about Elena but is mistaking it for other things hence the hypocrisy I think he's holding Elena to a higher standard subconsciously because Elena has been compassionate and selfless enough to literally be willing to die to save those she loves. So I think Don is subconsciously holding her to that high standard and being disappointed when she fails to meet it If he just saw her as an person with flaws and virtues. Good and bad. Yeah it is wrong to blame Elena because other people want to protect her. Nobody is to blame in a "should feel guilty bad person" kind of way. The Originals wanted to save their own lives. Damon and Stefan didn't want somebody they love to die and Elena is a human who got trapped by an original. None of them are to blame in the sense they should feel guilty. Even Esther's reasons were understandable. Abbie losing her witchiness was a tragic consequence of circumstances

The reaction to episode 18 was too funny. 🤣 Don was going off about the whole Elena situation. When Stefan said, "You're also in love with Damon," she was about to deny it—until he hit her with, "Tell me that you don’t have feelings for him." And then she hit us with the classic: "I don’t know what I’m feeling." If Stefan hadn’t pushed her, she still wouldn’t have kept it real. And that’s what’s annoying—either come clean, admit you want them both, or pick one. Don’t keep switching back and forth. Not only that, but she’s also starting a feud between the brothers in the process.

Shisu is an example of one of the toxic trolls that infest Don's Patreon members. Good thing there's a lot more in here that are actually decent human beings. I actually can't stand the Elena character, but it's not because of her love life, other than her waffling about it. The only character of that trio who isn't to blame for the situation is Stefan. Even when he broke it off, went cold, threatened Elena....that was because of Klaus. Damon should get a lot of flack for relentlessly pursuing his brother's love interest, then backing away, then going after her again. But it's true that Damon is such an interesting character, that it's probably easier to just hate on Elena.

Bonnie is actually a fodder character. They just have her in the show as “the witch girl.” Like maybe it’s just me, but if I knew my parent willingly left me and didn’t come back, why would I care if they got turned? Like me personally, if I got on this long without her, why would I need her now? Especially if they haven’t been a part of your life? Then when she knows the stakes of things, and shit happens to her family members, she holds it against whoever (usually Elena) as if there isn’t a greater evil they’re fighting. I’m sorry I’m just tired of Bonnie getting in her chest every season over shit that EVERYONE has to go though. You don’t see Caroline dipping for months at a time after her father died, or cutting herself off for weeks from people because of it.

The point is she lead Matt on, when she didn't have to. Breaking up with someone because you're not right together or don't want the same things is hurtful but understandable. Staying with that person, leading them on and being too scared to speak up is way worse.
