Ah the beauty of scheduling posts I'm either jet lag ridden, tired and worn down from an amazing trip, lying dead up a mountain after fighting Elk or Bears in Seattle or I'm perfectly fine seeing family after over two weeks away. So this post is either the first of many since my return from the states or my last. Time will tell.

Here we have the lovely rich and thick sounding oscillator 'DCO' from Soundforce. I really like this module, total Roland vibe but with much more modern high quality digital control. There's great audio rate PWM, some noisy FM tones and onboard mixing on sliders (love it).

I'll be in touch with everyone soon to catch up post DivKid's West Coast Adventure. Cheers for the continuing support, it makes a huge difference in continuing to do what I do, supporting my family and that continues to amaze me. Really thank you, it's ace.

Here we have the DCO Eurorack module from Soundforce. It's an analogue mixer based on DCO technologies of yesterday with a much higher quality modern take on the digital control element of the circuit. We get saw and square waves with lovely PWM and then two subs a noise source a mixed output with sliders to mix and blend the waves onto the mixed output. I've tried to make sure the video demonstrates the sound and functions but also really dive into some more creative and advanced patching for things like layered multiple outputs for fully realised musical pieces and also making a DCO drum kit out of the one oscillator. Skip around with the timing index below and let's chat in the comments.

00:00 Hello and patch previews

00:51 What is the DCO? Feature run down & sound demo

02:44 DCO in context - analogue subtractive patching with mixed waveforms, noise + subs.

04:09 PWM - Pulse Width Modulation - both “standard” and audio rate

05:55 Creative layered patching for full musical pieces from one oscillator

09:14 DCO DRUM KIT! Really love this patch turning the DCO module into 5 percussion parts to build up a modular drum kit.

11:57 FM - you don’t often see FM on DCOs but there’s some interesting noisy character in this.

13:42 Phasing layered drones.

This is quite a bit more interesting than I would have guessed. Those nasty FM tones are delightful. Also, kudos on using the filter to introduce some quasi-harmony and additional pitch movement into the droning patch at the end.

Excellent as always. I am a huge fan of vintage Roland. Thanks for another great demo.
