Hello, long time no see, type, speak or anything and for that I'm truly truly sorry.

First things first, thank you for sticking around and supporting me through a period where I have been very offline and inactive. Extra thanks to those that messaged me personally to check if I'm ok, I saw those and it made me smile. To be blunt things haven't been ok and I've been struggling with trying to write the right thing here to keep you all in the loop. I've been kicking myself for weeks not knowing what to say or do and worse yet not just dropping a quick message to let you know I'll be back. That really is the kicker, I'm ashamed for shutting down and going offline (except the odd stare into my phone as a distraction), I'm embarrassed for going quiet ...  and not knowing exactly what to say (I don't want to be a massive downer, or look like I'm after sympathy) has led me to going round in circles in my head.

Taking a step back ... since we last spoke, my US trip was amazing! Super motivating and amazing to see everyone and see a beautiful new scene emerging around modular and synths in Seattle. Seeing old friends and meeting people I've only known via online messaging in Portland was great too. I got back from that trip really burnt out and tired, but keen to get back into the swing of things. Lots was going on prior to going and several trips (Barcelona for the Befaco "Modular Day" event, a short family break and then the US trip) definitely closed a door in my mind on a few things that smacked me in the face once I got back to it all. Stress related ulcers and migraines have been going on for a good chunk of past few months and those trips seemed to put that to bed, stress lifted (or at least I was distracted enough and I thought I was on track but getting back from the US what felt like jet jag merged into a cold, I got feverous and thought I had flu and then when my eye socket, nose and jaw were in agony for several days I went to the doctors. Long story short I have a bad case of sinusitis and that infection has led to the jaw pain, eye socket feeling swollen and around my face. I'm on my second round of antibiotics for that and things are finally lifting.

Not looking for sympathy here, and I didn't think I was going to get into much here but as I've started typing I'm just going to keep typing, those that care thank you, those that don't expect normal service to resume soon with videos etc.

Getting ill came from some emotional and physical burn out, I built up to achieve a massive goal (more on that in the future), lost family members and for weeks now I've just not been with it at all. I've been trying, (probably too hard and not taking a proper break) to work. But the videos when I got to editing were poor, patches weren't strong and I sounded weird while in pain and mentally checked out from everything around me. I couldn't release sub-par work. I've been round in circles in my head over much of this.

I'm not going to read this back and try to make sense of it, apologies that it's no doubt a rambling mess. To be blunt things have been shit and have been for some time, I apologise for going quiet that should NEVER happen ... you deserve a quick update even if I'm going to be absent and I'm truly sorry for that.

In better news, I am back to working now this infection is shifting and for the first time in a while I'm enjoying it. I've had great fun with the prototype E520 (video above and info copied below) and I've been filming for a new module, a rather special module that you'll all see soon. I've got TONNES of work to catch up with, more videos to do than I could count or remember right now so priority is aiming for a solid run into the end of the year to give me a good solid productive start to 2020.

People waiting on one to one sessions - please note you will receive all of those paid for, we can do multiple a month to catch up if you wish.

Again a HUGE THANK YOU for sticking with me, supporting not just me but my family too as through a time of little work that's made a huge difference. We're all massively appreciative and I'm always blown away by how supportive you all are. Thanks again, I'm not gonna read this back so apologies for any errors, rambling or weirdness, you're welcome to ask any questions as always. I just need to get you updated and post something, which feels like a solid step forward. More will follow and I'll catch up with you all and anything specific ASAP.

Much love! Ben.

Here's the early prototype of the new E520 Hyperion Processor from Synthesis Technology. To me this is really the next generation of audio processing and FX in the Eurorack format. Having the prototype to play around with I wanted to get this out to show you the great sounds already in the unit, which is constantly getting updates and new features even at this stage. Head to the links below to support it on Kickstarter and for more info.

M808 - I mean I'm biased as I know how the obligation to work feels (and what's involved), but quite honestly I don't know how you kept up the pace before, and I bet nobody at all would mind if you did half as many vids in twice the time. Can you find a schedule that leaves you plenty of time to relax (and heck, even, like, just experiment with your gear on your own terms and further your knowledge!!) and have a family life, as well as crank a vid a week (or less!), at best? x

Lars Jaederlund

all good Ben, no need for explanations. Keep up and get well!

Brian Brill

Glad you're on the mend. You have every right to take the time you need, no apologies necessary.

Nick

Glad you're getting better. I was beginning to wander if you were ok? Love your vids and look forward to more but you gotta look after yourself mate, first.

modekt

The entire message was well said. Definitely take your time and get back on track with your health, which should come first along with your family. 🙂

John Schussler

I don't know about others, but I don't view my Patreon support of your work as transactional. I give so that you can work on what you want, when you want. If that means you take a break and just hang, that's cool. If you produce less than before, cool. The benefit to me might be direct (say, a video that introduces me to a module in a way I didn't expect) or indirect (you do vids that other people in Eurorack find useful and make the community grow). Doesn't matter. I believe that by supporting you I'm supporting the community as well, so direct returns on investment aren't what I'm looking for. On the contrary, if by me supporting you on Patreon you actually get *more* time off, I view that as a good thing. Take it easy, man. Take. It. Easy. We've got your back.

Dave Peachey

Echoing what others have said ... glad you're feeing better; hope the worst is behind you; take your time and do what you want, when you want. You've done enough over the last few years to need, and warrant, some time to recover mentally and physically (illness and bereavement both take it out of you). Having said all that - really nice to see you've got an E520 to play with. I'll get around to watching the video in a while. Cheers

M.S. Patterson

no worries mate. Take care of yourself. You've done so much for the community, and cranked out so much bloody excellent content, taking a break is well-earned, even if it doesn't feel that way. You can't make good work if you're not doing well yourself. It's good to have you back, but if you need to go slower for a while, do what you need to do. You've been going full on for ages.

cptnal

Keep well, mate. It's your body's way of telling you you're working too hard, so get yourself some well-earned. We'll still be here when you get back

Robin Vincent - Molten Modular

Awww mate you need to take all the time you need. I'm sorry I've been too wrapped up in myself to notice. You do a huge amount of work and I'm sure, as others have said, that we'd be happy with a lot less. Patreon is a pressure, I can feel that, but we're here because we love what you do but also because of who you are. So take it easy man, no pressure, we support you in whatever you need to do to take care of yourself. And you know where I am mate if you need me.

Ivan Starenius

Agree with all of the above. Take care and get well! Family and health first.

Estardos

Sorry to hear things have been crap and glad that you're beginning to feel better. As I'm sure I've said before - your back catalogue alone warrants my continued support, so please don't feel you can't take some down time. I just hope that you are able to schedule in that down time from now on, rather than waiting for your body to force you to stop through illness and exhaustion ; ). Big love. X

Stujay

Hey Ben! Americans are celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend, but even if we weren't, we're really thankful for you. Rest up, get healthy, be well, and put yourself first now and then, it's ok!

Chris Meyer: Learning Modular + Alias Zone

If one of your sources of stress is worrying about us, don't - we're not here thinking you owe us something in return; we're here because we support what you're doing. More importantly, we're here because we support _you_ - one of the most genuine, big-hearted, caring people in the industry. Who also happens to be human. And we're okay with that.

Curt W Smith

Sorry to hear about your tough stretch but glad you are on the mend. Pace yourself and post when it feels right.
