Hello,

I hope you're all good. I wanted to make a post to give you all an update and ask some questions too. So I'll dive right into those.

1. What has been your top module of 2021? I'm not precious about whether it was made in 2022 or not, just what has been the best, most used, most valuable etc for you this year. For now leave a comment on this post and we'll get into this in more detail soon.

2. Christmas and end of year hang outs! Let's hangout (Discord video chat, big zoom call etc) we should have a nice casual hang out (or several) to round out the year together. I can bring in guests, we can frame it around certain topics. Again let me know what and who you'd like to see with a comment below and we'll get onto that.

3. Patreon exclusive content. It's coming, I pinky promise! More Future Music videos to come and share exclusively with you and I'll be back onto working on the bits from recent videos too. Just a lot of admin type work to get through first unfortunately.

4. NEW DIV-BABY! We are due to have DivBaby no.2 early in January. While I don't plan any complete silence (at least from Discord and the community) it's of course ... and as it should be ... going to be disruptive. We're all super excited and having a 4 year old excited for a new baby too feels even more special. I'm planning and working on things for January and looking into February but how the next few weeks pan out is hard to be too specific about.

5. r beny live. Whoooo what a good one! I'll be sharing my live rig rundown interview with r beny and his Velocity 2019 performance in the next couple of days publicly on YouTube. Some of you spotted links to this and saw earlier Patreon previews too. The interview is here (click me!) and the live show is here (then click me!) if you'd like to watch them early.

I think that's it for now, if I don't speak to some of you before have an absolutely fantastic Christmas, end of the year and great start to the new one to come. I'll be around (on Discord daily as usual) so chat soon! All the best.

1. Black Sequencer / Drum Sequencer. Both these just clicked for me.

Knobula Poly Cinematic and the Versio line from Noise Engineering

Congratulations on baby #2! That's going to be a big change and hopefully #1 adjusts to being a sibling. In terms of modules it's Ornament and Crime for me (duh). Been really getting value out of it in every patch I make, and playing with new user-created firmware images.

Brien Hindman

For 2021 modules, I would have to say E520 with Mindphaser and Odessa tied for a close second. Shout out for NE's Desmodus Versio. I'm trying to be somewhat strict about the year, as I will always have my got to modules like batumi, etc.

Colorado Modular Synth Society

Congrats on the new baby!! That is a great range for the kiddos! For Modules, Dust of Time was a game changer for my sound. I also love that they keep updating it! Five12 Vector sequencer was also amazing this year. Jim is putting out so many user requests into his almost monthly updates I don't how he does it. Plus he puts on deep dives with live chat to explain it all. That just adds to the module. People say granular a lot these days but I really think wavetables are having their hay day! The 4MS SWN (especially with the new update) was one of my favorite additions too! I would nominate myself to hang out with you anytime, I loved it when you were on my show!!

Acid Rain Maestro and the Versio line for me. Both are tons of fun. Have a Happy Christmas and give my best to your family. Do I have to send you another Seahawks jersey for the fan-to-be?

knobs&strings

All the best for the new family member and a merry Christmas!

Luke Dearnley

Hey congrats on the impending re-fatherhood! Capricorns FTW! My fave module of recent times has been the Melodicer, such jammable fun - esp when making acid lines with it.

Sweeterlake

For me it's the Deckard's Voice. Still struggling with it, but when I stumble upon beauty , it is incredible. Congratulations on your family's second release and best wishes for the new year!

Elliott Pew

Congrats on kid #2!!! Having only just gotten into modular, my best module is the Erica Synths Pico System III module edition. I uh, really don’t have too much more than that in my case at the moment…

Chris Meyer: Learning Modular + Alias Zone

Absolutely best wishes and congratulations on DivKidDuo! Modules...probably the Starlab, for me. Although the (not new for 2021) ES-9 is also certainly proving its worth these days.

Stujay

Congratulations, pop! That's fantastic news. Overall, the module that had the biggest impact for me was the Endorphin.es Shuttle Control. Of more newly released modules, it's Beads.

Michael_Manning

Wheeey! Good news congratulations :) my fav is the 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, it has inspired the most music from me this year. I’ll jump in a hangout sure.

Ronny Krieger

I am pretty late to the world of modular, but the 2 most impressive purchases this year for me are the Xaoc Odessa and the 1010 Waverazor. I know both are technically older, but you said you are not precious about whether it was made in 2021 or not :-)

Mike Berry

I just got into Eurorack this year so all of my modules were acquired this year. My favorite has been the Basimilus Iteritas Alter (BIA), but it really opens up with modulation and Pamela's New Workout has got to be my second favorite module since you can do so much with it especially pared with the BIA. I recently picked up a Voltage Block and I think it might be a better pairing with the BIA, but I'm going to reserve my judgement until I've played with it a bit more. Congrats on the new baby! Spend time with your family and don't worry about the community. We'll be around. ;) Merry Christmas!

JB

I'm new to the modular world since last February so everything is new to me :) Of the modules I have I would have to say Ornament & Crime is my favorite so far...although CVilization is getting a lot of love lately and now that I'm figuring out all it can do, I'm having some fun with that one as well. You've been a primary source for shortening my modular learning curve over the last year...thank you!! and congrats on the upcoming addition to your family!!

Michael Brodhead

Congrats! Just starting with Eurorack this year, Pam's is the hands down winner. It is the one module that has been in every patch, including the one that started with "Let's see if I can make a patch without Pam's."

_truck

Congrats on the new addition!! That's great. I'm sure it'll be a hectic month, so we'll definitely all still be here if you need to duck out for a while. I'd definitely do my best to hop on a chat if I can, though I've no special requests for guests, etc. This has been yet another weird year for me with modular because I've again had my setup torn down and built back out so many times, I've barely gotten to be in any kind of flow with it. I think that's finally at an end for at least a year or two since I now have a studio space right out back instead of across town, and there's not much out here in farm country to chase us away any time soon. Haha. So for modules, it's very hard to say, but I think the one I've spent the most time with in terms of incorporating it in my workflow is the ER-101/102. It's a perfect match for me for how my brain works when sequencing. Second to that may be my little three-tier Make Noise rack (0-Coast, Strega, 0-Ctrl) as I find a way to incorporate it into just about every patch (especially the Strega). But not sure if that counts as a module, exactly. Haha.

Matt Lowery

Most-used modules for me this year were, hands down, a pair of Harvestman Tyme Sefari mk2’s. They impart such a lovely crunch and are just very inspiring. Cheers!

heckseven

My most valuable modules this year: Look Mum No Computer Performance Filter, VCO, and Megadrone panel Bastle Ikarie Squarp Rample

Nik Jewell

Congrats on the new arrival! If there can be only one then the Stochastic Inspiration Generator. A couple more would be Compare 2 and Vult Freak.

Dennis McNulty

Congrats on the new baby! I bought an SSF Entity Kick Drum second hand at the beginning of the year. It's amazing. A bit late to the party I know. The numerous inputs make it incredibly expressive. Also Ikarie. Rough sounding and great.

oliodnb

My top modules for 2021 are a bit older as they are the WMD MSCL and SCLPL I got at the beginning of last year to use at the end of my audio chain. I had some previous experience with software eqs and compressors, but I realized I was leaning too much on the visual feedback from the plugins metering. Having two simple hardware units made me rely on my ears instead and I feel like I understand better how they work and my mixes are sounding better now.

Tom Churchill

I only got into modular in 2021 so mine aren’t particularly new but I’ve loved using the Xaoc Moskwa II and the Joranalogue Contour 1.

moomatt

module most used: Ocht, module most valuable is Morphagene.

Energy Runner

Congrats on the new wee-one! Love the name Lyra! Great choice and bonus synth points on top it! :) SSF Vortices and the Mutes expander for the most used and most valuable module for me. Amazing for feedback patches, mono to stereo, panning, crossfading between the voices of my CSL or the feedback patch, FX loops, VCA mixing and waveshaping, glorious SSF saturation, vintage hi-fi voiced goodness, limiter to not overload effects, basically everything. I use the mono section as a VCA mixer for the FX send and feedback patching of my CSL. The stereo section works wonders for acting as a mixer for my mimeophon not only due to the more vintage hi-fi voicing of the mixer vibing well with the voicing of the mimeophon, but the limiter keeps the extra hot signals of things like a really resonating rings in check and keeps the noise floor low. The mutes allowing you to now quickly punch the whatever voice into the mimeophon so you can just leave your levels set is so much more convenient. Punching a tuned feedback loop in and out of the mono section mixing with the CSL voices is also just delicious. Also shout out to the SSF Dipole as my other top module (i even have two of them in the rack) due to it being one of the most versatile stereo filters to date, one of the more musical resonant self-oscillations in addition to becoming it's own complex oscillator, great SSF saturation, beautiful pings, great feedback patching capabilities, 10s across the board. Your demo video for it is also one of my favorite videos of yours! Lastly, running the dipole into the vortices, the vortices into the dipole, and any combination there of just works so well together. And let me tell you that as a guitar player, guitar => mi ears => mono section of vortices => mono L/R to dipole => stereo section of vortices =>mimeophon is absolute magic.
