13 Patches for better Sample & Hold + Track & Hold in Eurorack // Instruo tagh (Patreon)
Content
Hello, ello, ello, hola!
NEW VIDEO
Hope you're good and your week is off to a good start. Here's a new video to kick the week into some good voltage twiddling fashion on a topic that's close to my heart ... SAMPLE AND HOLD! You may have heard (cough cough RND Step cough cough) that I am a big fan of this particular function so it's always nice to be able to work with it and present ideas for making the most of it.
This video is for the Instruo tagh // which is pronounced 'tie' like the thing around your neck at a smart dinner or when two sports teams draw at one of their fancy sports ball games // tagh is having a limited edition release for 2021. This module is the Zelda 'eye of the Sheikah' you may have seen in some of my other videos of which there are only 2. As much as I'd love to see those blinking away in Eurorack systems I'm sure Nintendo may have something to say about them selling their IP. You do get two panels with tagh though, which is a nice touch.
There's no doubt making anything right now is a huge pain in everybody's bottoms. A pain that no cream will seem to relieve as component shortages and massive lead times are making things difficult. I know Instruo have had many modules delayed and they also touched on this on their own post (copied below)
"Component shortages have held up several modules, but I'm excited to share that there is a limited edition/limited batch of the tágh module.
There has been a lot of interest in this module for a while but it was never produced at any real scale until now."
Modules details aside (there's loads more of those copied from the video description below) this video is about making the most of Sample & Hold and Track & Hold. Understanding what they are, how those two are different and making creative musical use of those in your systems. So do give these patches a go with what you have too. As a side note I'd love to see how you're patching S&H or T&H so do share anything you think I've missed or just your favourite patches.
I particularly enjoyed the bit on primitive video game sound design and the little DivKid PacMan and Space Invaders graphics in this one. So watch out for those.
BONUS CONTENT
There is bonus content to come from this video, making this video (and the next one to come) is in the way of the bonus content at the minute. But I will be going back through these videos and getting the exclusive bits together for you before the year is out. So hang tight for those.
GENERAL UPDATES
I'm working on (literally breaking off the edit to post this) the next video which may be something I can share later this week. In terms of the next video after this one I need to figure out a few things and plan those out.
Beyond that I'm looking into possibly going all our for Jamuary with daily jams and videos and thinking if that's A. even sensible and B. how I'd want to do it and present that much material.
And I'm also thinking of some end of year, Christmas hang outs and live streams. I had wanted to get regular Patreon hangouts/streams going already but I just haven't had the time around other things. But Christmas and end of year feels like a nice time to just casually hang out, chat synths, voltages or whatever tangents and side tracks come our way. Let me know if you'd like certain guests to join us or certain themes and we can make it happen.
Enjoy the video, let's chat in the Discord as usual and see you soon!
VIDEO DETAILS
The video demystifies sample and track & hold, looking at their differences, how they work all within 13 patches for making better creative and musical use of these functions. As well as providing a tutorial on these functions this video is also a demo of the Eurorack module ‘tagh’ from Instruo which currently has a limited edition batch (info below). Try these patches out in your systems, they’ll work on lots of different modules and be sure to share your own patch ideas and let me know if you’ve tried any of these in the comments. Cheers!
