Let's hangout this Sunday! + Modular Meets Leeds run down (Patreon)
Content
Hello hello, hope you're all good.
First things first, let's hangout this Sunday! It would be nice to chat and just casually catch up. So at 8pm UK BST this Sunday (the 21st of August) let's do just that. We'll use the audio chat in Discord as a way to let any of you join in and ask questions (serious, casual or silly) and just chat. It would be great to see what modules people are getting, patches you're working on, chat about summer plans etc. I'm not sure how long we'll keep the chat open but feel free to drop in and out or just hang out long form for the evening with me.
Sunday the 21st of August at 8pm UK BST on Discord. That's 9 central Europe, 12pm midday west coast USA and 3pm east coast USA.
If you've not used the Discord audio chat (hey we might go wild and turn on the video too) before it's in the bottom left of the desktop app, scroll past the text channels and down to the VOICE CHANNELS and General (there's only one voice channel, we'll see each other in there). If you here and don't have Discord access yet check this link. https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-gb/articles/212052266-How-do-I-connect-Discord-to-Patreon-Patron-
Modular Meets Leeds 2022
What a weekend we've just had. I'm sure you've seen something about Modular Meets Leeds by now (if you haven't considering following the Instagram - also August 19th & 20th are the dates for next year). But I wanted to give a short run down of the event share with you all here.
Jason Lim live at Modular Meets Leeds.
We had amazing performances from Jason Lim of Instruo, Richard Quirk, BlueWolfSe7en and Scanner. All very different and each of them venturing through various sonic themes and musical moments, playing with more chaotic or chance led parameters which really seemed to make the performances and a fun interactive experience, it certainly felt that way.
My set up for the Truth Table Trio.
On Saturday evening we formed the new modular supergroup that none of knew we needed in our lives - the Truth Table Trio. It consisted of Jethro Bagust, Matthew Shaw and myself. Playing ambient and artificial eco jazz as background sonics in-between the performers.
We then had a great bunch of companies with us with lots of great sounding bleeps and bloops through the day. A few of them had new modules on show too which was a nice surprise for people.
Bradford centre (Centenary Square) as I picked up Dan from DPW.
One of the highlights was actually before the event, this was due to people arriving early. First up Dan from DPW Design arrived and came for a nosy around Bradford (my home town) and a look at DivKid Studio HQ. Then Instruo arrived at their holiday home for the weekend which was located in Saltaire, a Unesco world heritage site. I took Dan to see them and we went for a curry - which is an easy treat to find at many places in Bradford.
Instruo Holiday Home Video Studio!
For Saturday daytime Instruo set up a multi camera video studio in their Airbnb. We shot a video together with some great patching from Jason and some nice modules. Dan came over and we shot a video with a great patch he had set up, he had great ideas for working with rhythm, creating a bonus "free" extra voice and for create vinyl crackle type interludes between the notes that played. Then Dennis from Between Machines came over and we had a good looking at his module announced at Superbooth, Qlocker.
Dennis from Between Machines setting up for our video.
Those 3 videos will follow in due course as well as videos from the event itself (all the performances and a bonus rig rundown or two). I have to give an extra shout out to Instruo crew who went absolutely above and beyond in handling projection and mutlicam recording at the event. They were unbelievably helpful and hard working to capture it all for us. Huge thanks to them.
Just a smidgen of the rarities from Mike Gorman who always brings a car full of rarer gear with him
We're all buzzing about what next years event might bring. On that note we already have the dates for 2023, August 19th and 20th.
See you on Sunday and chat in the Discord! Ciao!
