This was a GREAT episode of anime!! I am very happy that this has been added to the list of what we are watching together. Heliocentrism and the church is a scary topic for this time setting but its going to be very interesting to see in anime format. Color choices with the art is wonderful and this ost.... WOW Here is to hoping that it stays period sounding vs anything modern. Outstanding experience so far 👌

Hell yea, lets go!

Kevin Baker

Fantastic choice. Good to whoever recommended it to you.

JoeyGuy7

This show has the most gratuitous night sky shots

Logan H

So happy to rewatch this with you !

Bryanterra456

I like how you noticed nanami’s (moneybags) voice actor IMMEDIATELY. Lol he usually plays villains cause he has such a villainous voice.

Sk dragon

really good rewatch

Carlos Mendez

So great to hear that op again. Show definitely deserves a rewatch and this is why I hoped for the possibility to do it here. Glad it happened !

JoeyGuy7

This isn't the most well-animated show out there, but imo it's fantastically directed. Lots of really impactful shots, which can be hard in a show that's so dialogue-heavy

JoeyGuy7

Excited to see it again with the visuals too. I know we focus more on the music here, but man when the chorus hits in the opening, the visuals combine with the op to match the themes of the show so well and just give me chills every time

Jet Man

The most worthwhile kind of anime are the ones that make me think. High action anime where I can turn my brain "off" are fine, but the ones where I get to turn my "on" give me the greatest... inspiration. Food for the soul. Protein for the brain. Stories like this one only come around once in a blue moon.

Drow1270

Wasn't this show animated by Madhouse? They always deliver

Xudos

Beside villains, I also LOVE that another type-cast he has is as the mature queer mentor. Like, Nathan Seymour / Fire Emblem, or Masaki Kobayashi. My favorite performance of his is probably Sakaido from ID:Invaded tho

Sam

I finished this thing a week ago - really liked it. I think the best way to describe it is “thought-provoking”

Arc

be sure to pay close attention to the opening in this show, it may or may not change visuals 👀

Sk dragon

the color and lighting (i don't know the lingo lol) is beautiful though

Carlos Mendez

I thought the exact same thing just didn't want to make my comment too long lol ! But definitely feel the same way you do specially as the story progresses.

Fuji Nami

When I hear that "nando demo" it sparks joy in me. You have no idea how much I missed my weekly doses of "nando demo"s Please you mustn't ever skip the openings lol

Loayza

Same man @JoeyGuy7

Loayza

💯

Inosek

We really need 2 ep per week... at least!

dpilg

you're going to be blown away just like the rest of us were, prepare yourself

drumrolltonyreacts

Yeah I probably will I just had a really busy week and one of them was a 2-hour anime movie reaction so I can't cultivate hours that don't exist

Chrome

Any other similar "thinking" anime that you can recommend??

TheGoblerTrainsMovinIn

You're gonna be blown away when I summon a wind elemental in your kitchen, just like the rest of them

dpilg

???

skrrt

fun fact: the ending changes twice as much as the opening!

Jet Man

@Chrome There are some you can even find here on Tony's Patreon, like "Death Parade" as an example. There isn't an exact anime that will make you think in the same way Orb will make you think, but I can still name a few that made me wander into my thoughts and might fit what you're looking for: Ghost in the Shell - (more so the movie but SAC too) Monster Paranoia Agent Sonny Boy - (This one is more Art house Anime, but still made me think) Planetes - (If you want more cosmic perspective like Orb) Also, while not an anime but still animated, go watch the story "Zima Blue" from "Love, Death & Robots" to give you some food for thought. This is a 10 minute investment that leaves quite the impression. Send me a message on the Discord if you want to have a discussion to help you find something you want.

Alanin_8💜

Lesgoooo!!! Orb is genuinely a masterpiece and it should've been nominated for anime of the year but got snubbed. I can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of the episodes!

PlatypusPrince

Kensuke Ushio (Dandadan, Chainsaw Man, Liz and The Blue Bird) is the composer for this show. It was really awesome watching both Orb and Dandadan every week while they were airing at the same time because their soundtracks are so wildly different yet amazing.

Cody

yeah we got shades from jjk😎

Joe

Orb is absolute PEAK. I held off on it for the longest time because the premise didn't really sell me on it but I actually checked out this show because of your reaction to the OP song, when I realized that I just had to check out a show with such a banger theme. Ended up locked in and binged the whole thing in a few days.

janzu

An especially memorable work by Kensuke Ushio for me is Ping Pong: The Animation from 2014. The music is absolutely amazing, so if you're interested, I highly recommend checking it out.

Uschi

The first time I heard the opening was your bass cover of it. :0 Ooo~ I’m gonna enjoy this.

GentleStepsOnSand

very glad to see you're into Orb, personally can't wait to see the reaction to the ED next time, that one has been on repeat in my rotation since it came out

Yuyu

could not have said it better 👏

Luca

And that's why im an Atheist

Kipperlily

as soon as i heard the ost i knew it was my boy kenshi
