I had my moment of frustration with our main character not actually being the main character, BUT it makes sense now 👀 The protagonist is the sky, stars, faith, astrology, the church, curiosity, human violence etc.. I just had to release the idea of a "normal" storyline. This is cool. It actually makes more sense this way. LOL of course this is assuming that it will stay consistent in the delivery as we are only 4 episodes in.

Land Hooman

The protagonist of the story is idea itself

Land Hooman

In a sense the boy is still the main character and you will see why

TheGoblerTrainsMovinIn

his name is Oczy, the voice actor just said oczy-kun, I cant really find a good way to explain the meaning but its just a thing the japanese do is put a suffix after peoples names depending on their relation. youve probably heard (name)-san or (name)-sama, same kinda deal

Maybe someone who's actually Polish and speaks the language can chime in, but as far as I know, Oczy (Japanese transcription: オクジー / Okujī) is pronounced something like "O-chee" in Polish. The Japanese transcription gives us “O” as in “ogre,” “ku” as a soft placeholder (usually dropped in casual pronunciation), and “jī” like “gee” in “genie.” But in actual Polish, “cz” is pronounced more like the English “ch” in “chess,” and the “y” is a short “i” sound, like the ‘i’ in “bit” — so overall, it’s closer to “O-chih” or “O-cheh” I think. Funny thing is, Oczy isn’t really a name in Polish—it literally just means “eyes."

Felt the same way as you on 4th chapter about main character. Still this show will deliver that's for sure. Btw yes, the name is Oczy, I think pronunciation depends on the language you speak. As a Spanish person it also sounds as "Oxy"

Lixien

His name is pronounced "Oak-She". The guy used an honorific at the end (Oczy-kun) which the subs didn't include so yeah.

“ch” in “chess,” and the “y” is a short “i” sound, like the ‘i’ in “bit” — so overall, it’s closer to “O-chih” Yep, this sounds right btw, watching this show as a Pole gives it a really nice additional flavour

wild, i can definitely hear something similar to it, strange. mb tho i thought you were just confused about the kun part.

Inosek

Thats why i love this show because it has a very unique type of story telling for an anime. Usually everything revolves around one protagonist, his motivation, past or simply showing how ''cool'' he is.

GoatZ

As others said, in English it’s pronounced something like Ock-zee, but Japanese is phonetically different. There are no lone consonants in Japanese except n, so any consonant has to be followed by a vowel. So the c, pronounced as k in English, becomes ku in Japanese. Although in spoken Japanese, the u is often said very quick and sometimes straight up dropped. Also, there’s no “zy” syllable in Japanese, so instead it becomes “ji”. So the pronunciation the voice actors are using is “Okuji”.

drumrolltonyreacts

So imagine.....if they wrote the subs.....phonetically correct ...🤯😅😅😅

Inosek

well true but since the show is based on Poland, writing subs in actuall Polish is... more respectful I guess? (totally no biased opinion btw!) But yes I do agree it is very confusing

Haiiro

you mentioned in the beginning of the episode how the Blond boy from episode 1-3 was promoted so heavily on posters and whatnot for the anime. Oshi no Ko did the same thing with Ai who was also incredibly promoted on posters/OP's PV's and whatnot. It does not happen often, but it helps to avoid spoilers i guess, otherwise the moment in episode 3 would not have hit so hard as it did. the same for Oshi no Ko aswell with their long first episode reveal.

GoatZ

I mean the voice actors full intent is to say “Oczy”. They are not choosing to say Okuji, it just becomes Okuji because of the limits of their language. Japanese is a sound-based language, so they are trying to copy the sound “Oczy” makes. If names were spelled phonetically, you wouldn’t have Joseph Joestar, you’d have Josefu Jousutaa. Spike Spiegel would be Supaiku Supiigeru.

Jet Man

18:05 - If you are curious as to why Mars loops back on itself, it has to do with perspective. At the end of episode one (19:52 on your recording) Rafael drew a diagram in the dirt with similar patterns, albeit more complete ones. If Rafael slips and falls backwards, the mountains only appear to flip over because he is the one moving.

Arian Abdolahy

Bro, I swear—if Todo from JJK asked Okuji about his type and got that doomer-ass answer, he'd slap the existential crisis right out of him. And then? Off they go to a Takada-chan meet & greet, whether Okuji's ready or not!

AntonJ0™

I love the change in protagonists. The symbolism in the church killing Rafal, stopping the genius of a youth in its tracks before he can even get started. Not knowing he has already planted the seed of his knowledge hidden in the mountains, just as his predecessor did for him

Cody

Whats crazy is its set in the 1400's, generally speaking not that long ago. Like to look at it with a perspective of if you were born 10 or so people ago, you get got for noticing something that goes against common belief.... makes the whole "seeking truth" & "cultivating inspiration" idea of the anime so real

Cody

the cross over no one saw coming lmaoo

Uschi

It’s been about 10 years since Rafal, so Nowak grew his hair out lol

JoeyGuy7

Name is especially hard because you're having a polish name filtered through Japanese pronunciation.

kinetic98

Oczy apparently just means "eyes" in polish lol quite fitting given he is praised for his eyesight. And pronounciation in japanese sounds (at least to me) like "o-ku-ji". But checking google translate, the pronounciation in polish is similar to "o-chi", with a soft "chi".
