Nowak has me legit scared. LOL the writing here is fantastic. Does he come across as such a creepy villain in the manga? Absolutely love this story within the story... but also... mannnn that thumb scene. He is really bought into this

My two cents as a person that didn't read the manga (a lot of Orb fans rn come from the anime because it was published in 2020 and finished in 2022 and it was never talked about really until now) I assume he was, just by looking at some images. Manga has always been a better medium in general at making horror. Also, the main thing that makes him creepy obviously it's the writing. The anime with the OST and the voice actor definitely balances that tho lmao.

Nowak definitely is one of the most terrifying villains that I've ever watched in anime. His VA, the directing and the SFX whenever he's present were spectacularly done to drive in the fact that YOU STAY CLEAR OF THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS!

Also we kind of knew it already about Nowak and Jolenta. On her first episode she visits her father to talk but he’s off screen, but that voice you can recognize from anywhere.

Oh. Lmao. I'm not remembering back to ep 1 and an of screen voice. That's cool if you did

One thing I think is really cool about this anime is the use of the word orb (or "Chi"). The word has several meanings in Japanese and they use it interchangeably. Among them are "knowledge", "truth", "orb", "Earth", and finally, as Nowak used, "Blood" or "Terror" (in the translation into my language, they translated it as blood). Another point about the subject, in the anime it is not 100% clear what the meaning is that is being used, but since we watch with subtitles this ambiguity is lost because we read the translator's interpretation... Many times I hear "Chi" and understand it as "knowledge" and not as "truth" as they used in the translations.

On her first episode, so actually episode 7

Inosek

Yes, we knew that he was her father from episode 7.

To think torture is still a thing to this day, even though it's been proven unreliable is crazy. I can't begin to imagine what must go through the torturer's mind when they do it.

Every time I hear Nowak in this show I feel myself getting tense. The voice actor and the presentation of when he shows up is done really well. I wonder if Nowak recalls the very first MC who poisoned himself when he finds others researching the same thing.

I read the manga and I can definitely say the anime is a better way to digest orb. Extra scenes, better artstyle, and a banger soundtrack. Madhouse is known for never missing on single season animes.

I think you have kinda wrong read on Nowak. He doesnt love torture, he is just indiffrent to it. For him its just another day in the office, and he doesnt want overtime, so he just doing what is the fastest way do get his work done.

Nowak isn’t fully on them yet but I bet he smells it like the bloodhound of church that he is.

His VA is just sooo good. Btw do you know he is Genichirou from Sekiro?

I wouldn’t consider this a spoiler, at least not an egregious one. By the time he comes up in the story again, you’ll probably forget who he is. Just remember we have met the bishop’s son in this episode, the man at the beginning who was upset with Nowak, complaining about the money the church needs and whatnot. I know when I first watched this, I got really confused later in the series because of that character. It can be hard to remember certain people because a lot of time passes throughout this show.

That device that fucked up that girls thumb didn’t twist it off, it crushed it flat.
