in case you missed it, the setter of Nekoma (Kenma (Shirt No. 5)) has the same VA as Eren (AOT) and Sonic (OPM). And Kuro's VA (Shirt No. 1) has the same VA as Gojo (JJK), Bucciarati (JoJo's Golden Wind), and Mumen Rider (OPM)

This show got my brother to join a local volleyball league lol I really like to play for fun too but I am only 5’3 like our boy Hinata AND legally blind so don’t usually do too well 🙃

BlakStatik23

We get Hinata being constantly blocked this scrimmage and forced to learn how to do normal attacks where he has to synch himself. Simple stuff, but a very important thing that’s really good to learn at this stage since all he’s used to is closing his eyes.

Aidan Suttie

Realism Review while I’m watching 🗣️ Those 1 handed late blocks should not be working with such consistency, regardless- setters like Kenma are an absolute bitch to play against in real life, neutral hands and high IQ makes it very difficult for the middle to read where to go until the ball is actually released, making a single block much more likely. A lot of setters at HS level project where he is setting at least a bit before the ball touches his hands, heaps easier for the blockers

Aidan Suttie

That being said ain’t gonna be too picky about it, it’s entertainment after all

Arian Abdolahy

They probably don't work with such consistency but when it comes to storytelling, you got to remind yourself of the fact that they have only so much time in one episode, so they show us only what's relevant for the story, they didn't show us how every single point got scored, so it seems like those 1 handed blocks work with such consistency when what's actually happening is that the times they do work is just highlighted and everything else is left out.

Aidan Suttie

Mhm, I get that- but from memory it happened like 3-4 times in a set, 1 handed blocks are a once a game at most highlight play usually

drumrolltonyreacts

This is why it's fun to hear from people who have done the topic IRL. Thx for the insight to how it really is

Aidan Suttie

Yh of course, always good to have a bit of a yap about vball. Hiakyuu has attracted heaps of people to the sport which is good (and a lot of cringe that comes with it, but still good that it’s getting people active). There’s this graph showing club volleyball numbers in Japan in decline up until Hiakyuu was released, and then it starts shooting up again In the states as well men’s volleyball has been becoming a lot more popular which is good to see, there’s this big ass 18yo setter in NCAA called Moni Nikolov who has become a bit of a legend if you’d want to have a look End of the day it’s just a show, but it’s has a pretty cool impact on the sport- I’ll probably keep chucking my some stuff in while I’m watching when I can 🤙

Aidan Suttie

God that was a lot more writing then I thought, whoops

Red Menace

super appreciate the realism review, love to watch and hear experts react to stuff like this, lol its why i found tony in the first place, but ya, the story can get kinda wonky at times, its like how food wars would have some simple culinary tricks portrayed like some godly skill/revelation, whereas anyone whos cooked even semi seriously would know them, like you said though, its a show.

Red Menace

lol, i love the opposites from each team, so freakin funny

Arian Abdolahy

There is even a Volleyball Coach on YouTube reacting to Haikyu Episodes! Would be funny to react to someone reacting, lol, but you should check it out sometime!

Red Menace

this is why i love sports anime, instead of "my lvl is higher than yours", or "i scream louder than you", everyone's got there own skills and negatives, and you "lvl up" but overcoming or at least adapting to your shortcomings, AND because its a team sport it makes everyone important in there own way, there's no 1 "prophesied hero" who can do everything perfectly.

Red Menace

oh ya, haikyu is complete, its a great building anime, the whole point is try to get to nationals and all the pitfalls and comeuppance along the way!
