WOW! This is the episode that is really pulling me inExcellent writing and just an outstanding way to connect details from the previous episode into this one. I don't think I have seen such an intriguing character backstory as this episode's feature in a long time. Very thankful you all voting this on!

Jet Man

Chekhov's gun is where every detail in the narrative becomes relevant. How fitting that we have a literal gun as a focal point in this plot. Which means... the gun is going to get fired, but at whom and where and when has yet to be determined.

oh man i could go on a tangent of my own about gacha games and the "whales" that really spend 10s of thousands of dollars on pulling for anime characters. its crazy how successful those types of games are. like with any type of gambling its ruined peoples lives, which is why alot of people on the internet tend look down on gacha games and anyone who plays/advertises them

Sk dragon

i only recently started playing a gacha game (the horse girl one) and i can see why people get hooked so easily, it's super addicting getting those rare pulls

Lixien

Yeah, this show has Steins;Gate levels of rewatch value. It crazy how many details you see that you're kike "aha!" when you finish the show.

Isn't it strange how a show where everyone is an animal can be such an accurate reflection of life?

Isaac Noël

Any game with purchasable in-game currency is not really a game at all. It's a scam with game-like characteristics

Jesse Miller

Yep everything is connected in this show. There were aspects of this episode that were in the first episode. Just amazing writing, glad you're enjoying it!

Isaac Noël

Basically if you meed to trade actual currency for in-game currency, it's because they want to manipulate how much you spend in the game. You can't ever buy exactly the amount you need, always either too much or too little. Gacha games utilise in-game currency to entice you into a continuous cycle of buying currency to obtain in-game items, and always having something left over. It's just one aspect of a monetisation practice that takes advantage of vulnerable people

That is present in ALL of life. Supermarket, car dealership, streaming services, patreon, booze store, dispensary.. etc I was being a bit rhetorical with my reply. How is it a scam if you get what what is advertised for sale? Wouldnt it be a scam if you paid money and did NOT recieve the in game thing? Often, we receive a free game with options for what you want to purchase, if at all. If we are worried about young people getting involved... we need to worry about the parents and how young people obtain a method to spend money on the internet without adult supervision. I literally just went to Vegas and watched people lose thousands... meanwhile I stood there and did not play and just took in the atmosphere. But also.. I would have if I wanted to, bc it's my money and I can elect where I want to spend it. The majority of life is surrounded by for-profit organizations.

Speaking of games have you finished Expedition 33 yet? Listening to the soundtrack in-game and as is has been a great experience for me.

The great thing about this show is that it tackles the problems of modern days. Firstly, we got introduced to a fame chasing twitter guy who wants some kind of recognition of his life. Then we have online dating guy where we can see how easy it is to lie about urself. Lastly, we've got gambling (or in this case gacha games which is well... the same) oh btw, I think u missed it but we already seen the ''100k eraser'' in the previous episode.

The voice acting of our raccoon man is superb in this episode

JoeyGuy7

This is a dumb guy take but I always sell people om this show by telling them its like pulp fiction with its storytelling

JoeyGuy7

Also this episode feels super impactful because it focuses on one story the whole time, instead of jumping around like the others. Really immerses you in this guy's spiral

JoeyGuy7

There's a difference between a gacha and a normal f2p game with microtransactions. But I do really hate that microtransactions have become the dominant way to monetize games now. Japanese gacha games are truly a menace to society tho (I play the horse game)

drumrolltonyreacts

I think this is popular to hate on vs just admitting that one are responsible for themselves and nobody else.

PlatypusPrince

This was also the episode that pulled me in back when it first aired 4 years ago. One detail you definitely don't remember because I didn't pick it up till I rewatched the show is that we saw that super rare eraser in Episode 1 as Shirakawa gave it to Odakawa.

Isaac Noël

That's a fair viewpoint to take, and I would agree that most folks would make the right choice. I just don't like the intentionality of the design philosophy. It's an engine to squeeze money out of vulnerable people, wrapped up in pretty graphics. Kinda like a poker machine

Isaac Noël

I also agree that it's popular to hate on gacha right now. I've never been one to follow fads, but I've always been anti-gacha, anti-in-game currency etc. I might be oversensitive to this kind of thing lol

Hermit

I think there's an inbetween. Some people are predisposed to gambling addiction, just like some predisposed to getting addicted to alcohol or other substances. We're not created equal when it comes to that. Obviously it doesn't mean we shouldn't be held accountable for our own actions, but I think it's also fair to criticize companies that are intentionally targeting those people with predatory tactics. For example : pyramid schemes. If you fall for it, you should have known better. But it also makes sense why many countries made it illegal. Are all gacha games that bad though? Imo that's a case by case scenario.

Hermit

This show reminds me a little of Durarara. It also had that kind of story with multiple subplots connecting to each other at the "perfect" time

I remember when you played knockout city your character had a cool skin. I wondered if that had cost money or if you could earn it through game-play.

Keep the tengent Tony, i love the segment

まき のり

I was thinking the same thing as you. If Tony liked this show, I thought he would also like Baccano and Durarara. I also love plots where various events happen to various people in various places, and everything ultimately converges at a single point.
