Amazing start to a new story. I came in knowing 0%, so this was a very nice surprise. Came outta the episode thinking that the VA for Prez in Love is War was our main guy, lol... he isnt. There is just something about his timbre and vocal cadence. I dig the idea of the gold, the prison, and the gnarly treasure map of human tattoos. WILD! Animation was killer with the style of the bear and wolf being separate from the art in the background. Excited for more. Good vote so far!

Woo! Pumped for this one :D

Asirpa's name is a weird one. In Japan they say ah-SHI-ri-pa but an American might say ah-SHEER-pa. Hope that helps.

Sk dragon

that was really fun

Cant wait to see your reaction to this series. Golden Kamuy is an experience lol.

So stoked for this one, been thinking about when it would get onto the Patreon ever since Vinland Saga finished. It's funny though, the bear and wolf animation was pretty universally panned (for exactly the reasons you praise) when the episode aired 8 years ago and people were convinced it was a sign it was going to be a poor adaptation of the manga. The director did an interview indicating that it was partly to clearly distinguish its presence from the humans and partly because animating the level of the detail for the fur that was in the manga would have been difficult. I tend to agree with the criticism, but it's a matter of opinion and it was definitely overblown.

Ainu is an indigenous tribe in northern Japan, similar to native Americans in the US

I'll watch this together before the final season episode that came out today. Great anime, excited to see your reaction until the end.

The U in Kamuy is pronounced something like the U in “pull” or “foot”. A Kamuy is like a spiritual deity in Ainu mythology. You’ll learn a lot about Ainu culture and mythology throughout the show.

One of my fav of all time

Kamuy rhymes with buoy or chewy. Unfortunately the subtitles for ainu words get progressively more and more incomprehensible, but I just recommend to anyone saying them however best you can just to get it in your head better, rather than stressing over accuracy

GoatZ

I don't think buoy/chewy rhyme with kamuy... Kamuy (the Ainu word) ends with the /j/ phoneme, the same phoneme "yes" or "you" start with. Buoy/chewy end with the /i/ phoneme. You pronounce kamuy as kah-muy, with the u as in "pull" and the "y" as in the start of "yes". Two syllables only. Not ka-moo-ee.

Just love how right out of the gate you are just immersed in this distinct culture. Ainu culture and people show up sparingly in other anime but I never really understood anything about them or realized that was what I was looking at until this show. It really delves into a part or Japan that really isn't addressed by any other shows that I'm aware of

This is one of my personal favorite anime! Love it so much

lmao can someone just write this mf out phonetically instead of what it may or may not sound like???????🤣💀💀💀

The animals are CGI instead of being hand animated so that's why thet look unusual. It's usually done to make it easier to animate but sometimes is also a stylistic choice. In this case it's probably both. It's interesting btw because usually CGI is not very liked by the general audience in anime for the way it looks and often seen as ''cheap'', specially combined with 2D. Some animes do it really good, and some really bad. I personally agree since I prefer something being hand animated (In Golden Kamuy's case it doesnt look bad to me but I would prefer if it was 2D, ofc it's way harder to do) so it's interesting that from your POV looks really cool. This is not the first time you looked impressed by CGI, I think it happened in Re:Zero too when they showed horses that were CGI animated. (This is not to say you can't feel that way, it's just an observation) Also, the song is from "Man with a Mission". Maybe you heard another song. They have very recognizable vocals.

Red Menace

the history of this war is fasicinating, both from teh hilarious failure of the russian navy, like trading fuel for pets lol, and because it dictated japanese expansionism and is(in part) why they attacked pearl harbor in the way they did

Red Menace

tony did you ever play red dead redemption 1 or 2?

Red Menace

never heard of ed gein before lol, that was a rabbit hole i was not prepared for

Red Menace

oh it only gets crazier from here
