I felt like this was a good way to conclude the story of season 1.Way too many thoughts to type, so just refer to the end of the reaction for my take. I plan to continue with the movies, but it's going to be here and there. The allotment is difficult to fit multiple movies into a week Thanks!

Their parents were thankful for the daughter they knew returning, but Sakura had just spent the last two years of his life with someone who was now “dead” . While he was happy to have the original sister personality back, of course, his loss was that the "Kaede" he'd been taking care of, protecting closely, and making memories with (and whom we’ve come to know all season) is now... gone. Character death, and as no one really knew this temporary version of Kaede like he did, he’s both distraught and alone. Furthermore, she apparently knew her “death” was coming, and wanted to work hard to leave her brother with good memories of “her" before the end... Shoko then led him out of this dark place, and Mai can (because she's intuitive like that) tell how shell-shocked Sakuta must have been, and feels guilty for not being there (when this mysterious woman could be).

I think the point was that the source of Kaede's motivation to recover was that Sakuta truly accepted her as a separate person from "Kaede-san". So it creates a tragic irony where the only way for the original Kaede-san to return is for him to view Kaede as her own person that he loves independently. If he didn't love her enough to mourn her as a sister, she wouldn't have recovered.

Heads up for the first movie, you will probably be confused as all hell at points. It's probably the most convoluted use of this series' premise and I would say to keep the same mindset that this season had where you just see what happens and take it at face value. The other 2 are a lot more grounded but it can be a lot to take in at points for the first one.

The version of his sister that we know was basically another person. So, with her gaining her old memories, he essentially just experienced the ''death'' of a person that he lived with for 2 years. Of course it's good that the original sister is back, but it sucks.

in a sense, the kaede he spent 2 years taking care of essentially "died". So he's basically grieving that loss.

It's so annoying that there's 3 movies between series lol. The first movie is great, even tho it's confusing, once the plot clicked into place it had a big impact on me

Yeah, the kind of thing where if it hits it hits hard... Pretty much wrecked me.
