This anime is fun! Good job on the vote 👏Comedy banter from the teacher is hilarious... all-around great roasting from everyone.I like the direction we are going with some focus on smile's backstory and how it's getting into the mix of his potential. This one gonna spawn some fun yap sessions as well. Looking forward to more!

weird how the opening's wrong on crunchyroll, it's supposed to have its own animation sequence, this one seems to just be reusing clips from the individual episode? good old crunchyroll quality I suppose

might've been the original airing used the ones you've been seeing and the opening proper was only made for the home release, something to that effect

One of my top 5 anime of all time - watching along with you makes me want to just go binge it again lol I like your point about the pacing, this is a tightly-written story for sure and that's one of my favorite things about it. I also looove the visual presentation, the use of visual metaphor, "cinematography" with how shots are composed, etc. The style is a hallmark of director Masaaki Yuasa, who has a huge and prestigious resume of both film and TV anime. Another of my top 5 shows is also from him, called Tatami Galaxy. Both that and Ping Pong are adaptations of series aimed at an older audience than e.g., Haikyuu, which I can tell you're definitely picking up on. Ping Pong was originally a manga series by acclaimed illustrator Taiyo Matsumoto which ran in a magazine aimed at adult (rather than teen) readers, and Tatami Galaxy is adapted from a novel.

I have the blu-ray and I think that's exactly what it is, just a difference for the TV airing of it

2 episodes in with the watchalong with you. Very glad this was voted in first over Ippo, as someone who voted for Ippo. I'm very thoroughly enjoying the ride already. The artstyle, despite it being rough is refreshing like you said. The writing behind this piece of work is already grabbing at me, as someone who was once in a competitive space for a few years. The coach is hilarious and the locker scene was very cool way to portray someone finding their passion or competitive drive. Stories like this are some of my favorite in media, and after 12 years of it being on my watchlist. I'm glad to be here to finally experience it for the first time. Buuuuuuuuutt...This ED though? Sorry, I can't bear to listen to it anymore lolol

The ''non-atutotune'' version still has obvious signs of pitch manipulation if you have the ear for it. Just a heads up. But yeah, definitely less in your face and a lot better.
