Madmanmarz1981

Awww Hells Yeah!! Sopranos Time Again!!! Tonight's Episode - Amour Fou This episode is a good plot and story episode. Not much action ,but things move forward some for most of the characters. This is actually one of my favorites. Mostly because of Gloria's big fuck up. And Patsy "Explaining things" to her is an amazingly cool scene. Oh , and Jackie Jr. is still a dumb-fuck. lol Ok , Checklist Time - Fatty rolled and ready - Check - Beer freezer cold - Check - Smokes and Zippo - Check Let's take a test drive ta Jersey! Peace " I hate em when they aint been shaved."

Annnd we're done!!!Damn fine reaction Sir!!! I love seeing you get so involved in the story! And yep , this one is a damn good one for that. The fight between Tony and Gloria was so damn intense! And this episode was one of his Emmy Wins BTW. (It reminded me of James Gandolfini's fight with Patricia Arquette in True Romance with less blood and violence.) Jackie Jr. is an even bigger dumb-fuck than previously shown. lol Well , next week pays for all so far , as it's Season Finale Time!! And Oh what a great time it will be!! Again Sir , keep bangers like this comin!!! Peace " Are you a Mexican , or a Mexicant? " " I'm a Mexican." "Good , then do as I say."

Bro I'm digging your glasses. What kind are they?

At a photo shoot? What was her endgame?🤣 Just trying to spice up the photos perhaps😂

gak9319

So what do you call that Father? Moral compartmentalization😅

Scene between Tony and Ralph is amazing. Both of them trying to push the responsibility of dealing with Jackie on to the other.

Love this episode too. Patsy being a cold mafia man then going to get shopping on the way home is just typical sopranos leading double lives. Full of symbolism and existentialism this one! One of the series GOATS if not the GOAT as tv shows since have tried copy the style etc.. of the show. So many bangers to come bro can’t wait! 🙌

I agree Mr B, one of the best episodes. Three points: 1. Outstanding performance by Annabella Sciorra who plays Gloria, and a great callback by the writers when she uses one of Tony’s mother’s signature phrases, “like a mute.” 2. Poor Dr. Melfi has known from the start that these two people were going to harm each other, each of them crazy in exactly the way that would spark something awful in the other, but she couldn’t warn either of them because of confidentiality. She’s been watching a slow-motion train wreck. 3. Ralph is the most evil character in the show. He moves into the Aprillo home to take advantage of the widow’s loneliness, and at a time when Jackie Jr is still feeling directionless from the loss of his father, Ralph seems deliberately bent on destroying the kid. Is it because Ralph resents Tony and knows he can hurt Tony by using Jackie Jr? “You took him under your wing,” says Tony. “The one thing you cannot do is blame yourself.” And they both know he means the opposite.

Susan B

Yes, and I love the use of a calm, upbeat song over the end sequence. The music tells us these are normal lives.

Susan B

I feel pretty sorry for Jackie Jr. Remember in season 1, while his father was still alive, he was a good kid. If Ralph Ciparetto never came into his life, things would have turned out differently. Tony could have kept his promise to Jackie’s father and helped steer him away from mob life. Ralph might be the one main character who has no redeeming qualities. He should have been disappeared after kicking his pregnant girlfriend to death.

I just read an interview with Lorraine Braco (Dr Melfi) in, of all places, my AARP magazine. (She and I are both old.) When asked about the Sopranos, which had its 25th anniversary last year, she said she doesn’t think as much about the show’s success as she does about “what I lost. I lost Jimmy (James Gandolfini), who was someone I used to jump up and down with happiness when I saw him, and run up and hug him.” Everyone who worked with that man talks about what a sweet person he was. 😢 That comes across in his portrayal of Tony, a sweetness and sadness, so that it’s easy to forget he’s a stone-cold killer.

Susan B

One of Gandalfini’s most menacing moments, and you can feel the layers of emotion underlying that cold rage: his affection for the kid who grew up alongside his own kids; his resolve not to let love get in the way of “our thing”; the disgust he feels for Ralph - and for his own failure to protect the kid from Ralph’s toxic influence.

Susan B

It’s infuriating to watch more than one priest tell Carmela that divorce is out of the question unless her husband hits her. How many women over the years have believed that shit, and have suffered for it alongside their kids?

Madmanmarz1981

Well said to the both of you : ] My Mother (RIP) went through it. As did me and my sister(RIP) Mom's side was like , Ultra-Super-Mega Catholic , and Italian so she would not divorce him. (He cheated , and was a Psychologic Abuser. ) But the Priests , and the upbringing kept her from divorce. Hence , one of the Top 3 Reasons I am not Religious ; ]

A lil "Vertical Wink" for Mr. LBoyd ? LOL

Madmanmarz1981

I totally get what your sayin. Even with the flunking out , he wanted to design men's fashion. There was some passion when he spoke of it. Even just having a couple easy rackets ,(Sports book , loan shark , etc) to pay for fun , and school would have been ok. And I think even Tony would have been ok with that. But while I share your opinion of Ralph and then some , I still have to blame Jackie Jr. for a big part of it. He made his own call in the end. Plus , I just enjoy disliking his character. lol And , as always , very well said: ]

I almost forgot a Movie Request - Cube - 1997 - A group of strangers awaken to find themselves placed in a giant multi roomed cube, and they must work together to find out why they are there. At only 90 min, this is a hidden gem. This is right up your alley Sir. Peace

Susan B

I’m sorry you went through that. 😳 Organized religion is all about control.

Susan B

True, Jackie Jr made a choice to become a lowlife, he did have other options. But Ralph is the Devil.

Susan B

I haven’t watched The Penguin but I see fans saying that it borrows directly from the Sopranos, sometimes reproducing the framing and lighting of a famous scene. David Chase was ready to leave television when he created The Sopranos as a sort of hail-mary pass to see if creativity still mattered.

Susan B

“I want to be Hugo Boss.” I think that ended him for Tony.

Susan B

Fun Fact. Ralph actor Joe Pantiolano plays Eugene in The Last of Us (season 2)

SnakeandNape

Dan Grimaldi who plays Patsy was a physics professor I believe before becoming an actor.
