Keith Allen

11 days since the last Dexter episode. Losing interest in it?

There’s pretty clear evidence that addiction can be genetic. It doesn’t mean a person will develop a substance use disorder, but it can predispose a person to addiction.

I am BACK!!! And it's great to see all the old folks still here , as well as a few new ones : ] I am caught up and ready to finish this show with Mr. Boyd and all the rest of this wonderful Patreon Family!! Tonight's Episode - Walk Like a Man Ahh , the story is getting better with each episode as we near the ending. Paulie and Christopher have their issues here , and AJ is a wreck. Not a bad episode overall. I'm just so happy to be back in time for the end. And I really missed being here and reading all the comments: ] Ok , Checklist Time - Fatty rolled and ready - Check - Smokes and Zippo ready - Check - Ready ta head back ta Jersey!! Peace ; ]

If I'm not completely wrong, predisposition to addiction can be inherited. There are also people who "process" food differently, so it's more likely they will put on weight. In the end it seems it comes down to what and how much you are eating, though some may have to be extra careful

This episode is like Tony feeding his son into a meat grinder. “Go be with real men who fuck strippers and get drunk. Then I can be proud of how manly you are.”

Lexapro saved my life, Mr B. I’m 71 years old and would have ended my life at 45 if I hadn’t found an antidepressant that helped me feel less worthless. Edited to add. There was nothing going on in my life that made me feel worthless, other than a medically diagnosed mood disorder. I had a good paying job, good friends, access to scuba diving, I owned a home, I loved my dog… and I became unable to feel anything but colorless despair. Chronic depression is a physical illness that responds, however imperfectly, to medication.

Things a DNA test can tell you that have nothing to do with how you were brought up include stuff as random (but accurate, at least for me) as how likely you are to enjoy watching sports; how likely you are to like dancing; whether you are more or less likely than the average person to be introverted, or to like the taste of cilantro; and, yes, whether you are more or less likely than the average person to struggle with addiction. Years ago I submitted DNA to help trace my family tree, and the things my DNA has revealed about my personality traits, propensity to prefer small quiet gatherings over large parties, my competitive nature when it comes to work, and my inability to hold my breath for an average amount of time, are not things I ever thought were inherited.

What Christopher is talking about getting it from his mom, he’s talking about the additive personality being hereditary. Addicted parents tend to lead to addicted kids. I’ve had former friends that smoked Meth legitimately as recreational. They’d hit it but never got addicted to it. Me knowing my family history? I’m setting here at 50 and never taken anything stronger than ibuprofen. Even after having plates, pins and screws used to repair a broken wrist I refused any pain meds. I didn’t wanna take a chance of potentially getting something started. Not to mention that shit ages people like their on Fast Forward. But addiction has COUNTLESS flavors. From eating, drinking, narcotics, adrenaline junkies of various types. You name it good, great, bad or horrible. And you’ll find someone addicted to it. Depression is also hereditary. Not getting depressed over this or that. But chronic ongoing, never stopping depression. And that’s even more difficult to navigate through than narcotic use. But a lot of times the 2 go hand in hand. My family has had 5 different men take themselves out. My little brother Chad back in December of 2011 was the last one. But in this instance? Tony built a home environment absolutely exasperates it

Tony(just like his mother) has expressed similar things that AJ has in this episode, during the course of the show. Tony distracts himself with debauchery. But AJ can't and or won't and has to somehow deal with these horrible thoughts. As for the nature/nurture debate, i would say a bit of both in AJs case.

Have been on it myself , and it helped me as well. Glad you are still here: ]

That’s not what that angle was at all. It’s kinda like straightening the picture on an old tv by slapping it on the side. And just like the old tv, it’s not a fix. It’ll have to be slapped again. Tony metaphorically slapped him out of his current funk to clear his picture up.

Sugar is highly addictive. And given that state of this country’s highly over processed food? Almost Everything has some type of sugar. Case and point. Subway was denied in Ireland mostly because of their “fresh baked bread” because the sugar content classified them as cake sandwiches. 😂 Not even their chicken is all chicken. Their chicken is literally barely over 50% actual chicken.

Annnd we're done! Another banger Sir: ] As to the question of Genetics , others have answered it better than I , so I say thanks as always for the knowledge : ] And yes , we have been seeing the saga of Christopher for the whole series. And you can see the similarities between how Tony treats him and AJ. He "spoils" them both , and is often disappointed in the choices they have made. But still loves them in his own way. Just my 2 cents worth; ] Can not wait for next episode!!!! Great ta be back! I missed this so much: ] Peace

Tony thinking the Jasons would have a positive effect on AJ was more like running over the TV with a lawnmower.

“Depression” is such a misleading term. Everybody has felt depressed at times, so they think that’s what it means. When in fact it is an inability to feel anything better than numbness, and at worst it’s a chronic feeling of despair that has no outside cause. We medicate to save our lives, and when we’re lucky, we recover an ability to experience happiness.

Susan B

We missed the rolling of the fatties and the commentary. Welcome back. Unfortunately, there’s no fucking ziti.

A note about the music in this show, and a request: Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb is a thru-line in this and the next episode. 2. In honor of reaching the end of the series, please play the opening song in at least one upcoming episode. 😃 For me, that song is like a character in The Sopranos.

Susan B

The guys laughing at Christopher especially about his daughter made me feel so sorry for him. Until he shot a guy in the head for no reason. Jeez.

Madmanmarz1981

100% Agree! Pleeeaaasssee Mr Boyd: ]

LumpyGrits

This is the thinking in a nutshell. Encourage him to go hang out with the Jasons vs continuing to spiral until he feeds himself a bullet. It’s better to do some potential dumb shit to learn from than dumb shit that there’s no coming back from. Speaking from personal experience. I had rather my little brother had gotten into some debaucherous dumb shit instead of blowing a hole through his own chest and us having to bury him a week before his son’s birthday.
