This is the review I’ve always dreamed of. One of the greatest albums of all time with some of the best performances of all time.

Datblaine P

erick guerrero

Holy shit, one of my favorite rock albums of all time. Their whole discography is amazing. Exited to watch this!

Memo Mondaca

So glad you guys finally got around to QOTSA! You may or may not know/remember but Josh Homme had a huge influence and role on Arctic Monkeys' Humbug, as well as doing backing vocals on Knee Socks from AM. This album is great, but for my money, their album "Like Clockwork…" is a modern masterpiece. Hopefully you guys check it out soon! (Btw, if/when you do, Middle 8 has a great video on the making of that album as well, I'd highly recommend watching it afterwards).

Anthony

Thanks for taking our requests! I've discovered a lot of great music through this channel and am so happy you covered this. Fingers crossed for 'Like Clockwork...'

Alexandre Martins

would love to see reactions to like clockwork and rated r!

bongle_dongle

been waiting for this forever. hallelujah 🙏

yostn

a total random really... ever heard the sweetback self-titled album? it’s the trio from sade doing their own thing while she was on maternity leave in '96. knowing your taste and the reactions i’ve seen, i’m 100% sure you’d appreciate the musicianship here. all live instrumentation. it’s that perfect mid-90s blend of acid jazz, trip-hop, and neo-soul production. really appreciate what you guys do!

Bianey

Oh fuck yeah!! Love this record so much! So excited to watch 😛

Ian

Great record! You guys should check out nonstop feeling by turnstile if you wanna stay on the grunge/punk rock

Ian

Would love to see your reaction to Portal by Balu Brigada!!

yellowflannel

Please react to ...Like Clockwork by QOTSA as well - also fantastic.

Owen Cox

Car seat headrest Twin Fantasy Next Woooo KEEP IT UP!!

bowlio

Never expected this but so hype to see it!

Joe

This album came out in my 19th birthday. No One Knows is an all time classic and Go With the Flow rocks, but I really dislike this album over all. I tried so hard to like it but one day I got so frustrated with it that I ejected from the car cd player and tossed it out the window 😂. I find a lot of the songs to be bland and the radio stuff is just grating. If you enjoy this I highly highly recommend Faith No More’s King for a Day…Fool for Lifetime. It’s a similar sounding record that I find much more exciting and eclectic.

JamesPog

You need to listen to some 90's Indie. Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Pavement

Zachary M Koepke

This is the perfect place to start with QotSA, and it may be their crowning achievement. Even still, some phenomenal material lies later their discography (as others have said "...Like Clockwork" maybe matches this record) that I don't think you should miss out on. Lullabies feels like it's trying to capture more of the vibe of Songs For The Deaf, and it largely succeeds, even if it's a less perfect record. And Era Vulgaris is even less perfect, but gets much weirder and is commendable for the swings it takes (especially on the production) while also producing some great tracks. Skipping straight to ...Like Clockwork would be fine, but I think losing those 2 records misses out on some of the bands best moments, and also the journey that the lineup takes with some amazing musicians and guest spots. Also, look up Screaming Trees, you definitely already know Mark Lanegan (r.i.p.)

katrin klausa

I loved how the first song stopped in the middle then restarted. It made me think of how you’re driving while listening to music, than you stop at the gas station and when you start the car again the music starts to play in the middle of the song. Also, hope you’ll do Era Vulgaris and Like Clockwork at some point

Allen Dyne

I don't know this for a fact but I always took songs for the deaf to mean it's so loud and heavy even the deaf can feel it.

Matt C

Josh produced Humbug

Pascal Ziehe

Day x of asking for Hi This Is Flume or and other edm album

Tom Bom

Loved this fellas! It’s worth reading about Josh Homme’s impact on the Arctic Monkeys after their second album 👀 Would love to see some Metronomy or The Libertines in the future.

bryan

that’s by mos def! not against d’angelo reactions tho. voodoo/black messiah are gorgeous and dense records

Preston Green

I was saying black on both sides or any D’Angelo album separately, not saying D’Angelo made Black on both sides lol.

Dr. Katz

Songs For The Deaf is the best QOTSA album, Like Clockwork… is the best Josh Homme album.

Ryan Manning

Look up how they did the guitars and drums for this. It’s very particular

Fidelí

Here for this!

Isaiah Nuñez

Recovering from surgery, on my ass with nothing to do but watch Kevin react to one of the best rock albums of the 21st century.

TheEggMcWaffle

This album is damn near perfect and it’s insane that this is only debatably their best album. You guys gotta check out Like Clockwork…

Matt C

Yall might also like Them Crooked Vultures which is a project featuring Josh, Dave, and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin

Sam Panfil

37:40 i think the song kevin is thinking of is foxy lady

Danny Stevinson

Didn’t expect yall to review this but very pleasantly surprised :) drumming to this album is SO much fun. You guys GOTTA CHECK OUT Decide by Djo. You heard The Crux - now check out Decide! It’s right up your alley with great drums, synths, lyrics, everything you guys like :) cheers!

Chazzygeoff

Goddam this album is a foundation of my life. I had my first drums kit when this album came out, and would (attempt to) play along cover to cover. In terms of Grohls involvement. I recall that FF were struggling to record & generally get along when making one by one. They wasted a million bucks recording all my life by forcing creativity that wasn’t there and over producing & relying on tools to perfect the vibe. Ahead of breaking up, Dave basically disappeared and went off to Joshua tree with QOTSA and recorded this masterpiece. Whenever I listen to songs for the dead I can feel Dave taking all that frustration out in his life on that poor poor kit! After that point and a few shows with QOTSA for the album. FF got backing the studio and decided to only use tape to record going forward. Forcing you to accept the mistakes and stop overthinking. This album, and universe of music of that 2000-2009 are so social

Andrew Veltman

We are getting close to a glow part 2 reaction

bowlio

Pls do more! All their albums are different but banging. I'd recommend Like Clockwork, Lullabies to Paralyze, n Era Vulgaris (my fav). The first two are closer to this sound n Era Vulgaris is super groovy/funk heavy!

brunette214

YES!! Excited to watch this! Great album

Andy Shaw

Try Them Crookes Vulture. Love child between QOTSA, foo fighters and led zeppelin

Steven Quijas

What a Valentine's treat! Signaling again for y'all to react to Bankrupt! by Phoenix, or anything from Phoenix in general

Caleb D

Have you guys heard any king crimson?

Blaine Walker

Great step towards some Nine Inch Nails, keep it up boys!

A Generic Canadian

Love this album, I did a project in high school on Go With the Flow lol. I heard Josh describes QOTSA as a rock version of trance music, and going back to this albun after discovering dance music later in life gave me a whole new appreciation of it. Sky Is Falling is probably my favourite track these days.

Josh Dimes

Welp, that was fun!!!

Greg

Vouch! Built to spill is amazing!

anders

GREAT ALBUM

Kalopsia

Got to see them on tour! Was an amazing show, so glad to see you guys reacting to them!

Ryan Daniels

Josh, Dave, John Paul Jones and Alain Johannes. What a time!

Coriander Pyle

I'd stick with the full desert sound and go with the first album, personally. I had trouble getting into Era's sound after listening to Songs For The Deaf

Kayla

Saw this on YT just now and I resubscribed to the Patreon immediately. This is one of my favorite albums ever so I need every second of this reaction 🔥

Monfresso

Never clicked a video so fast. Really looking forward to hearing your opinions, and hopefully they are positive enough that you want to check out more. These guys dont miss, but the next mandatory listen is "Like Clockwork"

Raisin Bran

Yeah Era is a challenging listen if you are trying to find the stuff that's gonna hook you on QOTSA. Even though Era is by far my favorite I would still recommend Rated R or even Lullabies for new listeners over it.

René Hjort

Resubscribed for this, I hope this will be an entry point for the genre, and hopefully more QOTSA!!

Taylor Bond

Do they not host the patreon cuts on YouTube as well? I want to cast to my TV more easily

Josiah Reynolds

Since y'all loved this one so much, you GOTTA check out their album "Like Clockwork." IMO its their magnum opus. much more mature but equally as fiery. Just a phenomenal listen

John

I can't believe neither of you had heard this album before - I subscribed to the Patreon just to watch the uncut version of this video!

Zach Ogdahl

I feel like you guys would enjoy eagles of death metal. Their music is a blast, its a band started by josh homme and his childhood best freind jesse hughes.

Kara

Yooooo. This is such a fucking classic I'm thrilled you guys listened to this one. I haven't seen anyone mention the Desert Sessions yet. It was Josh Homme's side project where he would bring some of his music friends to the desert, do a bunch of drugs, and record an album. The results are the Desert Sessions compilations. A number of QOTSA songs had their early beginnings from these sessions. I would highly recommend the Desert Sessions 9&10 - PJ Harvey, Jeordie White, Dean Ween, Josh Freese, and other QOTSA members.

Laura Mae

No, most likely due to copyright issues!

Lars Ickenroth

Had to wait for a while to resubscribe, but this one made me do it again. You should indeed do 'Like Clockwork' as well. Your dad's pretty close with that 'Jimi-chord'. Song for the Dead is actually a total riff on that 7#9 chord voicing, only Josh switched it to a drop C tuning and ups the ante by alternating between C and C#. Hendrix most notably used it on Foxy Lady in F# (which also has a similar pedal-thing going on with him bumping between the bass-note and the chord) and Purple Haze in Eb. That typical 'unresolved' vibe you get from it (because it's a major struggling against a minor in the same chord) is the essence of all three of those songs. But because Josh adds in that half step on the second go-around, you also get an eerie dissonant sound in it. So: kudos! It's an amazing song to play live by the way, with a cool drummer and another guitarist to to that signature back and forth with... As for other albums: Jack White's 'Lazaretto' would also be really cool, oh and you should hit 'The Smoke', Thom Yorke/Radiohead's follow-up project. That's insane. Then there's 'Idles - Joy as an act of resistance' ... I mean, where to start... haha Here's some tips that might rock your world as well, outside the US/CAN spheres: 'Motorpsycho - The Tower', 'DeWolff - Thrust', 'De Staat - I CON' (last one is a bit more known because of 'Witch Doctor'). Think you'd really dig those!

TheBop

If you guys do a Jimi video I’d really recommend Electric Ladyland. It’s my personal fav and their best record for sure, magnum opus. Most default to Are You Experienced? And I love it but Electric Ladyland is just that groundbreaking and timeless. If you guys ever want to do Japanese rock I’d recommend bands like Tricot, The Cabs and Midori. Or even something way different like the Fishmans.

TheBop

Three of my favs for sure, all Pacific Northwest!

Jackson Gray

Knowing you two are Arctic Monkeys fans, I’m sure you’d be pleased to know that the lead singer Josh Homme of QOTSA produced their album Humbug. In the CD case there’s a photo of Josh getting a photo of the boys by the desert. That was the album that pushed AM into that desert rock sound. That was how I discovered QOTSA. For your next endeavor into this band, I’d highly recommend listening to the album prior called Rated R and then once you boys are ready for the masterpiece of …Like Clockwork, that’s the best of them all. …Like Clockwork featured a lot of guest appearances including Alex Turner, Elton John, Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Nick and Mark make a reappearance, and also it’s their first album with their whole lineup that’s lasted the last decade. You guys are in for a treat with this band. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the albums that follow.

Kory Caballero

One of the best albums we've created 🔥🔥

Elijah Leighton
