I had a Patreon member ask recently about her dog spinning around to look at her in the stay. While this isn't always a problem, there's a lot of times we need to leave the dog in the exact position they were in, and we don't want them to change position to visually track us.
Many dogs move their body to look at you because they don't have the physical skill, or know what to do when you "disappear" behind them.
So today's video is going to address how to teach your dog to be able to maintain position, even if you go out of their visual sight.
I'm going to show you how to teach them:
the physical skill of turning their head to pick you up visually on the other side of their body without turning towards you
How management can help you get the correct reps in
How to use reinforcement when you first start this skill to help you and the dog be successful
By the end, you'll have a dog that can visually locate you, even when you "disappear" behind them, without moving their body.
Happy training ya'll!
P.S. This was my first time training in the new basement (yay!) that Eric and I have been busting our butts on most nights and ever weekend! We finally got the floor laid last weekend and are currently working on the hung ceiling (which is kind of a nightmare). I can't wait to show off the new studio to you!
I was also using a new camera and mic so my apologies for it being too close to me breathing. I will continue to work on improvements!
