Hey Folks!
In this deep dive I'll show you footage of me temperament testing a litter of 6 labs for service work. What's unique about this test is that it's not undertaken under ideal conditions, and yet we were still able to get the information we needed to make an informed decision. You'll also see more recent footage of that puppy out in a variety of environments after coming home.

So come along and watch adorable puppies and see how I handle puppy testing when things don't all go as planned.

And a reminder that I didn't mention in the video is to video your training - there's a lot that I was able to see much better from reviewing the video than I was in the moment.

Happy Training ya'll!

Why do you used the strainer?

Roxana

Where can I find the others videos on selecting a puppy?

DOGGY•U

I use the strainer to see how persistent they are with the food under it and the holes in the strainer allow them to smell the food. You can see a better example in the Deep Dive where I puppy test the GSP.

I'm finishing up a video for next week hopefully on how to better understand Patreon and how to navigate it, because I definitely know figuring this platform out can be challenging. The best way to find it is to 1) check out the "collections" tab and go to Deep Dive Collection, or 2) type "testing" into the search bar. But I'll also drop the link here for the GSP deep dive: https://www.patreon.com/posts/puppy-testing-12-79301133

Thank you 😊🐾

That was so cool to watch. You definitely picked the best pup under those circumstances! I love how she was so attentive to you, even looking into your eyes and wanting to 'connect'. On a side note, because I've always used a shop vac in my barn here in south Florida, to get sand out of a horses coat, I got my GSD used to being vacuumed as well! Now the problem is, when I vacuum the house, Pistol is so lackadaisical about the noise, that I have to lift a paw to vacuum under her! LOL! When I ask her to "place" elsewhere, she'll get up and move! But sometimes she'll follow me and the vacuum! I've realized that she really likes the one in the barn uses on her, so I keep a little hand held car vac handy to use on her in the house. LOL! (Can you say, "Pistol has you trained so well!!" 😂😂)

I have a Sheltie puppy that I want to perform a service for my psychiatric need for general anxiety disorder and social anxiety

I know it’s not a typical set up, but it is good to see on the other side when things are not typically ideal and it can show how the puppy would react in other situations. Thank you for posting this! I love evaluating litters and love watching these especially from you!
