Note: I am working on an update to this video, but for now there have been a few changes:

1. The original Crew ($10/month) membership has been eliminated and the $4 membership level has been re-named crew.

2. There is now 1 livestream a month. Even months (2,4,6,8,10,12) will be Deep Dive months and odd months (1,3,5,7,9,11) will be Q&A months.

Hey Folks!

Welcome! Whether you're contemplating joining the Patreon DOGGY•U Community, or have just joined in on the fun, this video will give you all the information you need to get started with navigating the resources I have available here.

As mentioned in the video, if you haven't found what you're looking for using the search function or the "collections" tab, you can browse this spreadsheet of all my Patreon videos and resources.

Thank you so much for supporting DOGGY•U and making access to free and low-cost resources possible!

Happy Training Ya'll!

Amber Fruchey

Thank you Navigating some sites can be tricky 😊

DOGGY•U

So glad it was helpful Amber! I agree - most people who join my Patreon are joining Patreon for the first time. Hopefully this helps clarify and answer questions before they arise!

Joyce Johnstad

By chance does your site offer CC for those of use that are of the deaf community? Thank you.

DOGGY•U

Hey Joyce! You can turn on closed captioning in both the videos that are posted directly to Patreon, as well as YouTube, and I believe Zoom does live-captioning on my lives as well.

I would like learn more about herding breed service dog. I have a sdit male aussie, he is 1.4 years old and he great but compared to typical sd/gd breed he seems to develop bit slow . Sometime is a little discouraging

DOGGY•U

Right now you're in the throws of adolescence and that can be really challenging, especially for males who are even slower to mature. Sometimes the best thing to do is take a few weeks off to just hang together, hike, walk in the park and take the pressure off while you let them grow up a bit.

Kassie Stone

I just joined and can't do anything because text is flashing back and forth and is unreadable. Tried opening a new page, using second device, etc. and nothing works. Please help.

DOGGY•U

Hi Kassie! Thank you for joining and I'm sorry something is glitching for you. I checked it on my computer and on the phone app and both seem to be functioning. Is it just this video or the whole site? Feel free to message me on Patreon to help get this resolved!

I've been wondering if you adding a Facebook page for inner circle members as part of the membership fee is a good idea. That way, we have a space where we can upload our progress together and maybe get to see if other community members can answer easier questions or provide old links to videos of yours that helped with problems they had in the past. Could also be used for community members to share local breeder/trainer recommendations for areas you aren't familiar with or even local meet-ups with each other or selling old gear. I think it would require minimal maintenance on your part and be a great space for people who are super familiar with your training style and watch all your videos. Just an idea tho, no pressure to actually do it haha!

DOGGY•U

Hi Victoria! I have had this request quite a bit in the past, and I do worry about an unmoderated page. However, due to your suggestion, I'm thinking about opening up a community chat here on Patreon that would be open to Inner Circle members. I won't be moderating it, but it would be a space where you can talk to other members, post questions/answers, or even post about personal wins with your dog. Hopefully it would serve a similar function without me having to be on social media any more than I have to be ;)

How do I cancel my membership

Laura, I just got my dog Winnie (a golden) and she is 14 weeks. She is very smart and we are incorporating the clicker and after working with her for five days ( thanks to her amazing breeder) she has quickly got SIT, and even COME. She is not so food motivated, she wants to be with us 24/7. I was looking for your advice (youtube videos or content within here) about how you handle puppies barking. Should we say "UH UH"? , we know to praise and reward when she is quiet. We know we can frown and turn away. I know Denver has a voice so curious about that. Also curious if you have a video about dogs that bark and howl when going in the crate, even when you've introduced slow, given rewards inside, shown them you will be right back etc. What if you have a tough cookie?

DOGGY•U

This would be a good question for the monthly live Q&A, as I'm not sure I have a place to point you (though I'm sure I've covered this before in other Q&As if you want to check out the Collections tab and go to the Q&A collection). Please read the rules on question submission (you can check out the April post about question submission) and submit it once the post goes up for May. But generally, with barking we want to understand why the dog is barking and meet the need before the dog begins to vocally express that need.

Kris

Hi Laura, I LOVE your videos they are so helpful!!!! I have an almost 4 mo old Golden (we got her at 8 weeks and I have been doing several of your videos since). She knows sit, down on both verbal and hand commands, does pretty good with place, come, wait (which I use as more of a temporary stay). But here’s my question: I’m so much better at following a specific order of things and how often how many days etc and when to progress to each new or additional task. I feel I have jumped all over b/c ALL the videos are SO good that I try them and she does well on it that day or training session but there are definitely many holes in my training or things that I’m probably not training well enough or that aren’t transitioning as well with distractions. We have 2 other dogs (one is a 70lb 1 yr old German shepherd mix of my daughters that is living with us for another 5 months - so that’s the hugest distraction even in just getting my pup to listen and come Would u suggest I do a puppy class somewhere? (

Kris

Sorry I wasn’t quite done with my last question….. do u have a specific order u could suggest following and timeline per week/month?. Or would u suggest a local puppy class for socialization/training? I am mainly gaining for a good pet dog. However my husband has health needs that may need some service dog helps in the future so I thought if I could at least do a lot of your trainings I would be ahead of the game. I live in a southern suburb of Denver if u recommend I do a class

DOGGY•U

Hi Kris! Welcome to Patreon! It's really hard for me to recommend an order of training because each dog is different. That being said, what works best for me is to write down, say 5-7 things I'm working on on a white board and pick 2-4 of them to work on each time I train. That way I'm not guessing at what I'm working on. You can use the "raising Denver" collections tab for ideas on what I started with on his training and work from there. Regarding classes, I highly recommend getting into a puppy class! I used to live north of Denver so my knowledge of south Denver is pretty limited. But in North Denver I highly recommend Rocky Mountain Dog Training. Probably worth the drive!

Debbie

Do you have mobility task videos? In particular, help with rising from a chair or heeling holding the harness handle. Thanks

DOGGY•U

Hi Debbie, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is a video I did with Whip on stairs. If you search "stairs" or "step" it should come up. If you'd like me to address rising from a chair in the upcoming Q&A, be sure it submit it when the "call for questions" post goes out. The next Q&A will be in early June.

Lauren Carr

Hi! I'm a newbie. I have an 11 month old German shepherd that I have been training since she was a puppy. She's always been anxious in parking lots, but it has become a real problem lately, where I have difficulty getting her out of the van or leaving the building to go outside. Do you have any suggestions on videos that address how to address this issue?

DOGGY•U

Welcome Lauren! Anxiety/fear is a really hard thing to address or make recommendations for over the internet. I would highly recommend you work with a trainer in your area to help address the issue. That being said, 11 months is a tough age for a GSD. At that age, when I'm hitting a road block, I back off and spend a month or two just going on long-line/off-leash hikes, training tricks or other things around the home, and kind of give them a mental break. Often giving the dog a break can help for both of you. Regarding parking lots specifically, again, I'd work with an in person trainer, but I would work on confidence building games where they step on different surfaces, you mark and reward (I call it the "touch the butt" game on this platform so if you search that I think a couple videos will come up) and then play that game with parking lots. Look at the parking lot? Mark reward. One step into the parking lot? Mark Reward. Two feet? Mark reward. The important part is that the dog drives the behavior and that we don't force them to do things they're afraid of. We want them to lead the exercise (but first you have to show them what that exercies is at home).

Earlier I was able to find the PDF of “stuff” used (crate, tether, cot, Oma’s food, etc), but now I can’t. There’s a partial pic of it in the “Protocols and PDFs” section but the full list isn’t there. Any tips on where it is?

I'm so glad you're taking care of your needs and wish you strength and rejuvenation! We need you for the long run!!
