Hey Folks!

Here's a Deep Dive into my household dynamics and how integrating one happy go lucky labrador into a group of opinionated herding dogs is going :)

I'll talk about skills to teach the puppy, integration strategies (turn taking), and the slow progression I used to honor everyone's needs and big feelings.

Happy Training!

You said you have a crate for Denver in your bedroom and you leash or tether him at times. Besides extra crates in your training room, do you have other crates you use throughout the day in the main house?

If Denver was an only dog would you bring another dog into the family so he "wasn't an only dog" or because he's going to be a service dog is it okay for him to be the only dog in the house? Obviously this is a personal decision but wonder your thoughts. At what age?

I would not bring a second dog into the house just to be a friend. If I wanted two dogs, that's a different thing, but I'd be totally fine with denver being an only dog and just organizing hiking dates for interspecies social interactions. If I personally wanted a second dog I generally feel my dogs are trained enough to add a second at 3 years old.

I have the crate in the bedroom, crate in the training room that rarely gets used for actual crating, and then one in the car.

By the way, thank you for answering my questions, even when they are asked at all hours of the night. Lol It's when I usually get to watch the videos. I've had LOTS of dogs but most were young adults when they were adopted. This time I'm starting with a 10 week old in January in Wyoming so trying to get ready. I'll also be having major surgery just a week and a half after he gets here so I REALLY need to be ready.
