Hey Folks!

Does it feel like time is flying by? What happened to my tiny little potato puppy?

This video is a bit of an update on what Denver and I have been up to from 4 to 6 months old, and what we focused on, training-wise. It will also go over what my next steps are, and goals for the next few months!

So glad to have you on this journey with us! <3

My name is Cindie. I’m sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place. I just need a little support. I have a miniature dachshund 18months SDIT as a psychiatric service animal. I struggle with agoraphobia but have been doing pretty well. Missy Jane is doing fantastic and was spot on today when she and I went to a coffee shop. Impeccable public access behavior but when I came out of the bathroom with her on a leash, vested, 2 young men in their twenties burst out laughing at us. I was so shocked and stunned. It was beyond apparent that my dog was the source of their laughter. I went back to the table, picked her up, and sobbed. I think they realized how upset I was but I feel like the damage was done. Of course Missy Jane settled into my lap and that was a comfort but I don’t know how to handle this. Should I have said something. Ignoring, I suppose in the future is best but that is such a leap for me. I wouldn’t need a psychiatric SD if I wasn’t such a mess. I think it will be a long time before I venture out again. I’m just wondering how others handle this. Thanks.

Hi Paul, I'm so sorry that this happened to you. The really tough part is that I don't have a ton of advice other than learning to ignore it. That could potentially include noise cancelling headphones and working with your therapist to develop strategies to cope. Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens a lot, and probably more-so with a smaller dog. Calling the person out in the moment is rarely effective and could make it worse. The first time something like this happened to me, I cried too. But after dealing with it for so many years, it doesn't even register anymore because cruelty is always about that person being cruel, and has nothing to do with you. Hoping with some support from a counselor/therapist you'll be able to venture out again soon!

This is so awesome! I'd love to see more on Rally if you want to share it. I'm hoping to do it but haven't found any training within a few hundred miles. I haven't found any online training either. It's like a big mystery to me at this point but know it would be good for us as a team. I guess I should start by getting a set of the signs. I think I saw them online somewhere but need to look again.

I ended up just printing out the signs at Staples and then putting them in a plastic sheet in a 3 ring binder for ease of finding them. Not sure if that's cheaper or not. I can definitely share some rally stuff as we get into it. Class starts this week, but a lot of the signs are really just stuff you'd want to train with your SD anyways at the lower levels or Rally so I'll keep your request in mind!
