Q&A Live: Tuesday July 8th @1pm ET (check your email for the live invite or come to Patreon on that day and time)

Deep Dive Live: Tuesday July 15th @1 pm ET (link in separate post for Inner Circle) Topic: Rear Foot Targets Part 2: Behavior Applications  (details below)

What is a Live Q&A vs. a Deep Dive?

Live Q&A's typically last 45-60 minutes and are open to all paid DOGGY•U members. Crew and above members can submit a question prior to the live. Q&A's are recorded and you can find every Q&A I've ever done in the "Q&A" section in the "Collections" tab.

Deep Dive's typically last 30-60 minutes and are recorded, so if you can't make it to the live, the recording is posted later that day. They focus on one topic, covered in a webinar-style lecture. You can also see all previous Deep Dive's in the "Collections" tab. Deep Dive's are a member benefit for Inner Circle and Top Fan members.

LIVESTREAM Q&A INFO:

This month I will be trying out the Patreon Live feature for our Q&A, so you can attend live directly on Patreon or go back and watch the replay. You'll be able to put follow-up quesitons in the chat. Reminder that questions should be related to the topic I am currently covering and I do not take non-related questions during the Q&A.

Those members who are at the "Crew" ($10/month) level or above are able to submit one question per month with their membership. Leave that question in the comments below.

The cut-off for submitting questions is 2 days prior to the live (Sunday July 6th by 1pm ET is the last date to submit) so that I have time to prepare. Please limit questions to 1 per person so I have time to answer them within the hour. Questions should be general enough that I don't need to know your specific dog/behavior to answer the question (this also allows everyone to benefit from the question).

DEEP DIVE INFO: Rear Foot Targets Part 2

This month we'll be taking what we learned in Rear Foot Targets Part 1 and applying it to practical behaviors for both daily life and task-related behaviors (pull, blocking, backing out of tight spaces and maybe even a trick or two). Be sure to watch Part 1 before the live to get the most out of this month's deep dive. You can find it in the Collections tab under Deep Dives.

When raising and socializing an 8-week-old puppy for future service dog work, how do we balance the need for the puppy to eventually ignore people with the importance of early socialization? Should we completely prevent people from interacting with the puppy, or is there a way to allow limited, structured social interactions without undermining future training goals? Specifically, what guidelines should we follow around when and how others can touch, greet, or handle the puppy during its early development?

What are your feelings on dog daycare? My sdit is 11 months and our yard is small he can’t like open the throttle and run here.. I’m joining SniffSpot to take him somewhere safe once a week for training and big time running. I’ve not let him meet dogs on leash, He’s very good not really reactive passing dogs while we’re out on walks, but does he need the play with other dogs in that off leash situation? I wear him out in many ways so he’s a really good guy and great sleeper but I’m afraid I’m missing play? Should I just up the fun play at sniff spots? He’s had very little play with other dogs, just a few well behaved in our small yard. Although I’d miss him greatly if he went to daycare, the one nearby is highly rated, they have daycare with dogs separated in appropriate groups with supervision, day training including in house and outings in public with a group of dogs and trainers, board and train (which I’d never do) a service dog program (which I’m also not into) , bite work (also a no for sdit) and cgc tests etc. I appreciate all of your content I try to binge it all when I can. I’m sorry Jake has moved on, my spirt connection boy passed last summer and it was the most painful experience However he moved on in time for me to now have the sdit I feel like I need for this chapter of my life. Sorry to go on but would daycare just turn up the potential he will then want to play with every dog he sees? Should he just have a few close friends?

I'm not sure what level I am but I do know I'm a paid member. I have an adolescent Mastiff who is about 18 months old but he's maturing very slowly mentally not physically. I've read a lot about their maturation stages especially for these big guys. He will be doing some bracing but we're not doing that yet. Regardless, he evidently is going through the second adolescent stage of insecurity and fear and you kind of mentioned it in your short that you posted this morning about Denver finally falling asleep in public. so do you have a video on teaching them how to settle??. Q&A: and also what are things to definitely avoid during this stage and definitely exposed to during the stage? and how to do it in and successive approximations? What to look for in the dog's body language for the "go ahead" rather than just the extremes such as "oh he wont take food now"? and definitely what to make sure to avoid doing or try not to do? I know about not consoling them or patronizing them when they are expressing fear as it parents as praise r for fear behaviors rather than letting them come into their own and build confidence. I will say that this is very hard when I'm experiencing anxiety myself, so would your suggestion or recommendation to make sure during those times to have another fellow trainer with me? Or how to mitigate? Unfortunately, I lost my prior service soul dog last year and his successor has started losing her hearing, so I'm already having to mitigate my feeling of urgency on training him so your video this morning was also good because it reminded me do not compare and that God gave me this other boy and it will be the perfect timing to quit stressing about it, and quit trying to "find the perfect trainer" because God showed me that "I am the perfect trainer for my babies" harder than I will for them and just quit comparing myself also ... so thank you I could watch this morning's short on loop lol. I will definitely share it with my husband and I think he'll probably concur, as he's always trying to encourage me! God bless him!🙏🏼🐾🥰 If I need to upgrade a step further please let me know I'm happy to do so I enjoy your content

DOGGY•U

Hi C Marie! Yes, you would need to upgrade to the crew member or above (which you should be able to do in your member settings). Unfortunately, you have also missed the deadline for questions. I take two days to prepare for Q&As so you're not just getting an off the cuff answer, but instead a well thought out one. You can read all of the info about Q&A along with deadlines in the above post that you've commented on here, as well as in your welcome note. Please feel free to submit this question for next month's Q&A at the crew or inner circle level. I do have a settling course on the way, but it likely will not be out until the fall. Best, Laura
