I've got a puppy who has "shredding tendencies" and I want him to be able to settle around towels and a dog bed. How do I help that along and how long should I expect it might take? Been trying to set him up for success by putting him on the bed when he's already really tired, but that feels like catching lightening in a bottle 😂

Not sure my response posted but I'll add these to the list. I will also be talking about how to train an alert/behavior interruption task for SDs. Thanks for the questions!

if there's time, do you think there's a 'normal' timeline for when puppies start to be better at entertaining themselves? or a normal progression of toys they'll engage with solo? Around 10 weeks I've noticed my pup keeps himself focused on a frozen & stuffed Kong . So far it seems like: kong with dry kibble -> frozen kong -> nylabone w peanut butter -> more complex feeder toys -> ???

Hello, so happy to be here! My first question is on confidence building, what’s your go to or number one? Chloe is a lab mix, two years, adopted at 1. She is normally very good and recovers easily when startled, but new places seem to make her uneasy. She will be an at home SD and hoping (someday far in future, PA) so I would like to boost her up as much as possible. She was spayed at adoption (was in her first heat) and was badly beaten (for “training”). (Have examples if you want them) We have worked through most things, and she is doing really well. We went to a new outdoor location and she was just not as confident as I would like her to be. Thanks so much!!

Melody and Rick - Will add those two additional questions!

I picked up the book “Training Games for shy dogs” and it’s got some great things in there. (Just sharing) looking fw to the live. Thank you!!

We have an 11-week old puppy and your training videos with Osa have been foundational in giving him a good foundation! I wondered how you manage nipping and the instinct to mouth so much at this age - I know a lot of it is part of his development as a puppy but when and how do I teach him that he has to inhibit this behavior?

Morgan Alexander

Also wondering how long you leave a tether when you are utilizing one? THANK YOU SO MUCH! We are so proud of our puppy for how much he has learned so far and how well he does in social situations - your education has been crucial in giving him those good habits!

Alright I hope everyone is ready for me to talk for a very long time on Tuesday lol! I actually had to organize my thoughts in a word document instead of the Notes app so I'm pretty excited to see you all there!

These can wait until the February's q&a, but I wanted to write them down while I'm thinking of them :-) How do you think of luring, capturing, and shaping, and deciding which is best for a situation? I noticed you didn't use a lure with the box work videos and figured there's a reason there and Book recommendations? Do you have an all time favorite training related book? or something you've read recently?

DOGGY•U

Hey Rick! I am saving this comment in my emails and will do some separate posts to answer these questions so the Q&A doesn't run crazy long. Stay tuned!
