A big thank you to Laurie for finding this audio version of the Karen Overall Protocol we discussed on the last livestream. There's a whole playlist so you can listen to the narration while you work you dog without having to read anything or keep track of where you are! Happy training everyone!

It helped so much, and it didn't take Abby long to learn that if she kept still, eventually she would get a treat (even if I was acting like a nut, lol). It also is perfect for being able to keep perfectly calm and focused, knowing that all I have to do is follow along with the directions. I was able to keep my treats behind my back until directed which kept Abby focused and the task and not the treats. I ended up casting you tube to my tv, and could listen and watch someone doing the program. That helped me remember to mimic the trainer's calm demeanor and body positioning. I did have Abby in front of me rather then at my side as in the video. I am not sure if that is important, but it seemed like stepping over and around the dog to take steps to the left wasn't quite right. At my age, that seems like i am just asking for trouble and another pulled back musvle. Anyway, I hope it helps. Abby has gone from being a complete terror a couple weeks ago to mostly well behaved and calm. We had some other things we had to do also, but all together the routine seems to be working. 😀

Hey Laurie - that's so great to hear!! When I do this protocol, I also do it from the front, not the side, so I think either way works! Happy Training!

I just came back to this and it went way better! Thanks for finding the video Laurie and sharing it Laura! Before watching the video I didn't realize that it was supposed to be a single down stay, which makes much more sense! I was releasing and bringing my puppy into a new down, and by day 3 it was taking forever, but we did it right yesterday and it went great

Finally starting today!! We have place training going already, but this is just the bomb! We are heading out to work it now. Question any reason to not train two dogs at once? Each on klimbs for this? (This is how I’ve been doing place (both at once) since the puppy came home in Dec, we just got the klimbs last month! Love them!!! Thanks for that!! They are just what I was looking for and last place taught everything on a awkward raised bed that I was not going to be taking everywhere I went, the klimbs are much easier to do that with!!

Love that you are enjoying the KLIMBs! I would start this separately with the dogs (I know, I know, it will take double the time) but you want to be able to focus on each dog and notice their body language, any tells that they might get up, etc. which you may miss if you have split attention. I think once you've run it through with each dog separately, you could probably start the protocol over together to further proof this relaxation behavior :)

We went through it twice Shimmer(puppy) did perfect, Chloe broke some a bit more than normal. We did not a lot last week when I was sick. So thats normal for her. But yes I will split them up if needed. Thanks so much!!! And Chloe has had a year of mat and raised bed (6 months) and regular relax training too. But she’s just off today not sure why, I think I’m hitting her teen phase (she’s lab mix 2 years) thanks so much!!!!

We are doing this 2-3 times a day (whatever day we r on, at whatever location) (separately) and the dogs can hear it and look up when she says treat if they are looking at something else, am I correct it’s time to put the headphones on? So they can’t hear it anymore? Thanks !!

Cool ty!! that’s what I thought but having you to check in with is so valuable and reassuring!!! When I’m slow walking back and she says treat before I get there they are like “yo the lady said treat mom!” It’s sooooooo funny!!! I LOVE the intelligence that dogs have, so much more than most people give them credit for!!! TY!!
