Hey DoggyU Crew!

Thank you so much for supporting my channel and becoming patrons! This month's live Q&A is on Tuesday, March 29th at 7pm EST.

You can come on Patreon and click the link above at the designated time, or if you have notifications turned on, you should receive an email right before I go live.

Please post any questions you have on this post so I can collect them for the livestream. If you do not wish to publicly ask your question, feel free to use the message function on Patreon to send a question to me and you will remain anonymous to the other members.

A few reminders:

- Questions should be broad enough that I don't have to see the specific dog to help with an answer.

- I will close questions 48 hours prior to the livestream so I have time to prepare now that you're such a robust group of dog trainers! I look forward to joining everyone live in a few weeks!

Best,

Laura

🥳 Thank you Laura ! My question is about training treats “management” , I would like your guidance on how to handle the part of my dog no longer being interested on a treat he was super excited about a couple of moments ago. Sometimes he doesn’t even want a food reward at all. (He will do what i ask, then he will approach his treat, sniff and go away without taking the treat). Should I change treats? Is this a sign that training session is over? And what sort of treats would you recommend (if possible stinky ones since his main drive is his scent)? Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us 🥰 we are very excited to be part of this community ~ Teresita & Tuco

😇 another question Do you have any tips on how to build confidence on the dog when training/ working on something they fear or something they are not familiar with yet. For example, this weekend I discovered my dog is scared of the “air break sound” some large vehicles/buses make when they stop. How can we do some training and give them exposure to the element without “ traumatizing” the dog?

Teresita Acosta

Just to add a bit to this, I saw your video on socialization (great video btw), and I have played the sound on YouTube, but he wont react to the sound when it comes from a speaker.

Hopefully simple question this month. If a person (me) wants “place” and “mat” to mean the same thing, which I do. In addition to practicing them separately, no harm in placing the mat on the klimb, when working with the Klimb “place” right? I had another question too but forgot it lol 😂 (still working on other stuff) and the relaxation protocol is going GREAT and really helping!! TY!!!

DOGGY•U

So glad the protocol is going well! Question: why do you want two cues that mean the same thing? (not being snarky, really curious). It would be easier for the dog if the cues didn't have synonyms :). Let me know so I can better answer this one! Thanks for the question!

Melody Townsend

Oh I used two diff words to explain (or try to) what I was talking about. When I cue them to either the klimb or the mat I use the same “place” cue. So I am using and do want the same cue, was just trying (not well lol) to explain, and old program had two different behaviors one for place on the raised bed and a different meaning for the flat mat, so idk what’s “the norm” nowadays you know what I’m saying? Sorry to be confusing, ask me any questions you need to!! I’m an open book to u!!

Teresita Acosta

Hi! As I see more videos I have more questions 🙈 Is it ok to teach my dog several things at a time? Or should I wait until he fully understands one trick/ command to teach another? And if its ok to train several “at a time”, how much time should I allow between training sessions? Have a nice weekend 🤓

DOGGY•U

Can definitely talk about timing, adding new behaviors, and training schedules. Great question!

Melody Townsend

Also Laura can u include a timeline for puppies, like at 5 months they can do how many and how long training sessions? There are generic timelines out there but if you can include like you know the one you advise that would be awesome!! Shimmer the puppy is doing great but I want to not burn her out or under stimulate her either. Ty!!!

DOGGY•U

Hi Melody - each puppy is different but we can definitely discuss this in the Q&A

DOGGY•U

Questions are now closed for the Q&A so that I have time to prepare. Thanks all! See you Tuesday!
