You never have to worry about wondering what CoolWhip is feeling 😂

In this first clip I'm showing you how I used an object I found "out and about" on a river walk trip for an impromptu stand-stay session to start generalizing the behavior to other places outside of my house. Whip isn't thrilled and would rather go back to playing in the water, but she humors me and does a great job.

I'd love to tell you that I then spent more time practicing her stay in a variety of locations before bringing it to the ring, but that's not what really happened. What happened was that I did that one generalizing session for 30 seconds and then I went to Rally-O class (2 weeks from her originally not being able to accomplish the behavior because she'd never been taught it) and it was THE FIRST BEHAVIOR WE HAD TO PERFORM! What are the odds lol!

So I did one practice one on the sidelines before our turn and then performed it in the ring and she nailed it! Yay! I was so proud of her. And as promised, you saw all of the training steps I did to get there. I think the reason I was able to "cheat" on the generalizing a bit, is that I've spent so much time generalizing other behaviors to different locations, that she's used to the process and understands that behavior can happen anywhere. But, before ever thinking that this behavior is "finished" I would continue to practice it in lots of locations and under a lot of distractions to proof it.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed that series! Let me know if you like this kind of thing and would like to see more Rally-style obedience stuff trained from scratch as the need for it arises.

Happy Training!

Congratulations on the success! She did a great job in the ring! Her ears tell a lot about how she's feeling on that bench, hehe. But hopefully she got to swim afterwards for being such a good girl. I loved the series. So much honesty and no out takes or cuts. We got to see every minute of her training before you were on-site for the trial. Very neat.

Thanks Lindsay! It was a fun one to show. I think it also has a wide variety of applications outside of just the stand-stay. Have a great week!

I would LOVE to see more rally-style obedience trained from scratch!!! Such a fun hobby. Unless she knows everything else already lol

DOGGY•U

haha she (and we) don't know everything AT ALL. My rally class starts up again in a couple weeks so I will try to start working on something new. My challenge will be that I'm traveling cross country (CT to CA and back) from mid august to mid-october and going from hotel to hotel can be tough on having a training schedule. But I'll do my best!

You remind me a lot of my first trainer even though the style is very different he also had that magic connection that only comes when a dog respects u, you can tell looking at Whip that she has the utmost respect for u!!!!! Keep it up!! Keep teaching us all the things!!! 🤗🎉
