Third session of medication retrieve training which shows working on paw, how I handle when Whip starts offering a chin and paw at the same time (make the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard), as well as a spontaneous med retrieve after day 2 of training!

Another note: Notice that I lure anything in this session that isn't something I am working on. So if I need her to set up in a position on my right hand side, that isn't something I'm working on this session, so I simply lure into position, then ask for the behavior.

Let me know if you have questions!

Happy Training!

Did you reward her when she brought it even if it was not the time? (Or you did cue her for it?.. maybe I missed that part)

Hi Teresita! Great question! So in this case, I DID reward her. Here's why: I want to encourage this behavior. It wasn't under stimulus control yet (so not on solid cue) and she had an independent thought that she should bring the meds. I want to encourage independent thinking with my SD so that she is empowered to make decisions on my behalf, which is also what I rewarded. This was also the trigger for me to know that I needed to start lifting the desk up so she couldn't get the meds outside of session again, as I don't want to reward it ultimately outside of me cueing it. So yes, I rewarded, and then I changed my management strategy so that I didn't continue to reward a behavior I don't ultimately want. Does that make sense?
