New video is out, ad-free as always for Patreon members before it's published publicly tomorrow!

This video is all about shaping a force-free harness load both for service dogs, and pet dogs that may be sensitive to "getting dressed".

For those of you who have been here a while, you know that CoolWhip has always been a bit equipment sensitive and I was determined to have her enjoy getting into and wearing her new vest. This video brings you through my entire process for training it, which took about a week or so.

This video would also be valuable for those who want to learn more about shaping behavior.

As always, be sure to open the video in youtube to like and comment to help others find it! :)

Happy Training!

Many dogs are sensitive to putting on equipment. This video shows you step-by-step how to teach your dog to love putting their equipment on. We go over creating a positive CER (conditioned emotional response) as well as how to shape behavior and eventually shape the dog to load into the harness or vest when presented to them. This video is great for service dogs (assistance dogs) and pet dogs alike. I feel you on the equipment sensitivity. Vinnie hates putting things on, but once they are on, he doesn’t mind it at all. Jury, on the other hand, gets so excited to put her harness on that she has to bite it and then throw herself through the neck hole. 🤣. After having Vinnie be so sensitive about equipment, I put all the things on Jury as soon as she came home with me. And I have to say… Whip’s sushi eyes! 🤣👀❤️

Haha!! Isn't it so funny what we work on with each new dog? Because Jake was so car sensitive when he came to me, I spent SOOO much time working to make CoolWhip happy in the car. I do think there's an actual sensitivity component to it though, just like humans can have sensory things. I've watched a lot of dogs grow up, early positive exposure to harnesses, I mean, really well done protocols as puppies, and some dogs still have issues. But thats totally conjecture on my part.

Yes! Jury has an over the top personality (straight from her sire). She is super easy to over arouse and I totally think the two things are connected. That being said, her crazy personality makes a super fun enthusiastic dog to train. I always say she’s a stick of dynamite in a little black dress. 😂

Is it at all possible to get a transcription of some videos? I have significant memory issues and as much as I wanted to, after watching the video, I couldn't remember enough to actually put these things into practice. I've spent about 45 minutes so far trying to transcribe this one myself, and I'm not even 5 minutes into it yet. I love the videos, it's just a frustrating barrier I have with being able to remember things so I can put them into practice.

Oh man, I've been putting this off because I know if I ask Juno if she wants to put on the vest the answer will be no. I always feel bad about it, but she's fine once the vest is on. Now I'm inspired to start over and train it from the beginning. I love that Whip is weird in the same exact ways Juno is.

Herding dogs. All the opinions! This would be a good project for after NYC lol! You've got too much going on before then :)

Where did you get that vest?

I just tell Bruno "Suit Up", and he dives his head into the front part of the harness (Bold Lead Designs Balance Assist harness).
