Q&A Live: Monday September 25th, @3:00pm ET (link below)

Deep Dive Live (formerly Special Topics): Retrieve/Hold Training (part 3) on Thursday 09/28/23 @10am ET (link in separate post for Inner Circle & Elite Members)

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR! :) I will no longer be doing reminder posts as it seems to cause some confusion, so be sure to mark down the date and Zoom link!

LIVESTREAM INFO:

Reminder that our livestreams are via Zoom and I will post the YouTube replay link after the event with a brief summary of the topics covered. You can always go back and watch past livestreams even if you can't be there live. Participants will be muted so please put follow-up questions that pop up during the Zoom in the chat box. Reminder that questions should be related to the topic I am currently covering. If I forget to turn closed captioning on, please remind me!

Those members who are at the "Crew" ($6/month) level or above are able to submit one question per month with their membership. Leave that question in the comments below.

The cut-off for submitting questions is 2 days prior to the Zoom (Friday September 29th) so that I have time to prepare. Please limit questions to 1 per person so I have time to answer them within the hour. Questions should be general enough that I don't need to know your specific dog/behavior to answer the question (this also allows everyone to benefit from the question). If you're looking for more specific feedback on your dog, be sure to join the Elite or Top Fan membership level for video review of your training.

DEEP DIVE INFO:

The Deep Dive Live this month is going to be a continuation of the three part Retrieve/Hold (formal retrieve/fetch) series. This will be part three. You can go back and watch Part 1 and 2 at any time! The focus of this session will be on building to the full retrieve and generalizing with practical exercises.

To access this deep dive livestream, a link will appear on the feed for Inner Circle and Elite members later today. If this interests you, you can upgrade your membership at any time, and as always, you can watch any past livestream replays, both special topics and Q&A.

Back to the Live Q&A: Please post your question for the September 25th livestream below in the comments!

See you next week!

I have a 6 month old kelpie that I'm just trying to teach to fetch balls and discs for play, and he loves to chase and grab the roller discs and he'll bring it to me up to a point but he stops pretty far away and stalks/stares at me and sometimes lies down with the frisbee. Even if I run away to get him to chase me, he will run after me but he won't come close to me. He wants to leave this space bubble around me and won't break it (until the game is over). Is teaching a formal retrieve my best bet, do you think?

A new problem just in the last couple of weeks, when we get ready to leave a shop, he lies down and refuses to get up, even with a treat in front of his nose! If I give the treat to a complete stranger, he complies! Talk about conduct unbecoming of a Service Dog! How do I help him through this? I'm taking him to the vet Monday morning to make sure there's nothing wrong with his health.

Thanks for your questions! See you all Monday at 3pm ET
