Hey Folks!

Happy Thursday!

Today's video (AD-FREE for Patreon members before it's released on Friday!) is all about safely navigating doors with your dog. Thresholds can be a big deal for dogs, and getting accidentally squished in, or hit by a door, can easily make dogs door-shy, and apprehensive about entering buildings.

I made this mistake once, early in my career with a guide dog who got bumped by a heavy door. It took nearly 3 weeks to get her confidently navigating to, and through doors again. It was a mistake that I could have easily avoided with the right training protocol.

So in today's video I show you how to train your dog (and yourself!) to navigate off-side and revolving doors. It's something most people don't think about, but there is a way to do it that keeps your dog safe. I call it the spin move!

I hope you enjoy the video!

Chloe

The revolving door was interesting.

Bruno hasn’t been through a revolving door yet. Thanks for the great lesson! OTOH, while he hasn’t been on a bus, he’s traveled with me on AmTrak to Colorado. He went between cars like he’d been doing it all his life!

I need help. When Hiro (SDITj is vested and in public he does very close to perfect. When we are walking at home he sometimes pulls ahead. I know it’s me but what am I doing wrong.?

Hi Linda - it’s really difficult to answer this question without knowing your dog/watching you both in action. That means it may require the help of a in-person trainer. That being said, does he have an opportunity outside of vest where he’s allowed to be a dog, sniff etc? When Whip isn’t vested I use a 10-ft line to allow her to stop, sniff etc.
