Hey DOGGY•Uers!

I recently posted the video of Navi's first bus ride. Because the YouTube algorithm (and the people watching) reward quick videos with minimal actual instruction, I wanted to post a behind-the-scenes look here for you all.

Instead of voicing it over like on the YouTube video, you can hear my real interactions with Navi the SDiT, and Casey, who is filming. I throw in a bunch of quick tips for when you're practicing for public transit.

Hopefully it's helpful to see some more live training!

Happy Monday Ya'll!

Best,
Laura

It seems like you are training them to eat off the floor. Something that I am trying to stop.

Hi Lee! I feed on the floor frequently and do not find that this translates any more than typical to scavenging behaviors. The reason this works is that I am putting eating the food on cue. So when I mark, the dog is being told to eat the food. If you're looking to work on your leave it cue, you can check out this video: https://www.patreon.com/posts/leave-it-and-for-72110249

What would you do if you can't get access to a stopped and empty bus like this? I'm going to try and work through it with my dog, now that he's getting less fearful of things in public (hooray for turning one year old!). I'm going to just be BY the bus stop for awhile, and see how he does with things, in terms of fear, and as next steps start taking him to the PetSmart, as it's a 10 minute or less bus ride to get there. I haven't taken him with me on the bus in at least 2 months, because he pulls to get on, sometimes tries to go underneath the legs of strangers if they're sitting in our usual seat, and is overall very uncomfortable the whole way there. I do my best by taking routes that don't have transfers, even if it's longer to get there, as least crowded as I can get it to be, and standing with him is just not an option right now.

I would start by watching buses but then also call the bus line to see if you can do some training. I've had several clients have significant success with the bus depot allowing them to train before or after hours.
