Hey Folks!

So this video was supposed to be a public release, but unfortunately, I had a couple spots where the audio quality wasn't where I wanted it to be. This was one of my first attempts to explain a concept and train it at the same time while also being mic'd up, and well, that's hard LOL! In any event, it's footage that I wanted you to see so I ended up just reducing the volume of the few times there were audio issues and writing on the screen what I was saying since its only a few words. I hope that works for you!

In the future, I think I'll focus on just doing the training and then voicing over it. It's hard to train something, not miss anything, and say what you want to say. In any event, here's Axel the 8 week old GSD learning how to sit. He is being raised by friend Spencer to be a future guide dog.

Happy Training!

Love seeing that pup work. But best of all is all your work you did creating a library of amazing videos to get my 6month pup on the right tract of being a good mannered service dog.

Loved: “I like to treat every position as a ‘stay’ right away.” What a great tip—this was worth watching for that nugget alone! Good to know you have everything catalogued for future reference. Thanks!

Thanks Stephen! <3 Remember you're heading into the tough adolescent phase, so expect some backslide, and spend some time cultivating a good sense of humor for this period together LOL!

I have a question on getting my dog to down on hand signal or verbal cue. She only goes down on a lure. What must I teach to get her to down. Do you have a video on this?

DOGGY•U

There's a few things that could be going on here. One is age and time spent on the behavior. Sometimes it take a lot of reps to get a young dog to understand what you want. Second would be, does your luring hand look like the way you want the hand signal to look? We want the lure hand to look like the eventual hand signal as much as possible, then "pretend" to get a cookie and do the same gesture, mark and reward. Three would be, are you rewarding multiple times in position? Search "Luring a down" on Patreon as well as "fixing the pop-up down" in the search bar for two videos showing this a bit on Patreon and then also check out this "stay video on Youtube. While it is tips on stay, they will also help with your down. https://youtu.be/wvbY5t4kr4c

Thanks so much for the tips. I watched the videos, purchased a bag of 500 bites and did lots of repetitions of Sit, Down, Free, and now she caught on. Thanks for taking the time out of your day and responding to my off topic question.

how do you teach stand ? do you tell them to heel?

DOGGY•U

There's several ways to train it. I typically train it via luring, hand touch, or using a target. I'll eventually teach it with Denver so stay tuned!

i am so burdened and have a really bad panic attack. I was supposed to receive the puppy today or tomorrow. when I found out through an email they sent me on the 27th about a disparity in the food that the dog was being fed from what I was emailed originally and then I had not heard from the driver until after I sent an email complaint saying I want a refund that all of a sudden I got a call saying the driver would be here in an hour only to learn that through my daughter‘s research although she’s in another state, she found that people complained about this website as being a puppy meal and I am so distraught that I paid thousands of dollars for a dog that I thought was a purebred as can be dog, which who knows what it’s going to be when it gets here, but my daughter said no matter whether it’s a puppy mill or not it still needs a home. I’m just so frustrated I thought because it said Better Business Bureau accredited that it was, but I did not dig deep enough before I shelled out a credit card. I pray this puppy will be healthy and I can give her a good home.

I have tried this with my yorkies that are almost 3 and 5. When I try to lure them back, instead of sitting, they back up. I call them forward again and I try it again but they just still walk backwards instead of sit. Any suggestions?

DOGGY•U

I would look at your reward placement - it may not be high enough. You also want them nibbling on the reward before you start the lure (something like string cheese where you can hold part and they can nibble part). Also, consider using a platform where they can't back off of it.
