Let's do a deep dive on the 2005 bestseller Confessions of a Video Vixen, and by extension, the sexuality and politics surrounding black women who perform and/or monetize sex. Karrine Steffans was a brave and flawed woman-- and many of the reactions to her book were riddled with hypocrisy (and if you were anything like me, such hypocrisy will teleport you straight back to middle school).  In this episode of Celebritea, I'll be discussing the book, the 2000s phenomenon of video girls, misogyny in hip hop, the audacity of rapists like Charlamagne the God to pass judgment, the very fine line between video vixens and sex workers, and more! This was fun to make. More new videos coming in July <3

This video was really great <3. Also I know I'm probably the 912385th person to ask about this BUT I can't resist: We're totally getting a Zola review, right? I was in high school when the tweet thread first came out and...I've low key been waiting to see what was gonna happen with this movie for 6 years. As a young Catholic school student the tweet thread was my first time reading a story about strippers and sex workers that was more than just a cautionary tale. It also got me thinking...."maybe sex workers aren't the problem...PIMPS are the problem. If pimps are like bosses for sex workers then what does that make bosses? *Internationale starts playing in the background*"

I don’t remember hearing about this book. That may sound weird but I grew up in Northern CA and there was less than 4 people of color in my middle school. It’s not a general area where you would have any sort of African American/Black culture. But I’m definitely going to check it out now. As always LexualMedia is amazingly talented

I remember that Tyra interview omg. Has Tyra ever apologized for the way she treated the women who came on her show? And yeah, even with how bad IG is now, I wouldn't wish the slut-shaming, heroin chic early 2000s on any young person.

Buffie the Body had a small clip in ATL. That’s the only movie I saw her in.
