This is a work that I feel extremley proud of. It's a commission, and my brief was to create an FMG character from Eleanor of Aquitaine holding a sword of power a-la He-Man (note my entirely unsubtle nod to MOTU on page three). I kind of dig alternative history scenarios, so the background here is an invasion of medieval France by  orcs and goblins from a mythical realm.

There are going to be a few more pages of this by the way-- I'm not going to just leave that little thread dangling there at the end!

Oh wow this is hot 🥵

Brian Dutton

I take it we will see Esmerelda transform?

Brian Thomas

Such a wealth of detail! And what an interesting request!…. BTX

Thomas B.

It really looks fantastic!

AC Marvel

This looks good. Can't wait for more

The Art of Craig Smith II

This looks VERY good. Nice little He-Man homage there with the "I HAVE THE POWER!!!"

SilverStrand

You should make more with these characters, I truly think they have potential

Manic

Yeah, I really enjoyed making this and I'm thirsty for more! There are going to be some more pages, definitely.

Iain Brown

I'd love to see the first time Eleanor took up the sword, since it definitely seems she has become the Champion before.

Agent00Soul

Eleanor has quite the English connection too. Wife of Henry II and mother of Kings John and Richard the Lionheart. I guess Richard inherited is lionheart from her!

ArtSeeker91

As a documented blood-related of Richard the Lionheart I feel ashamed to know I never checked the historical importance of Elanor and Henry the II. I shouldn't take the work of others research of ancestry for granted. Thanks for helping a guy realize he needs to read up on history a bit!

Garth Ranzz

You clearly had fun with the orc army ... and challenged yourself. I trust the commissioner will shower you with suitable coin, good sir.

Agent00Soul

She was played by Katherine Hepburn in the excellent movie The Lion In Winter. Richard, John, and Henry are all major characters too.

Confidente100

Beautiful work, Manic! Is this depiction of Eleanor of Aquitaine based upon a particular fictional series? I know that she is a historical figure, but I'm pretty sure she didn't have these powers! XD

Manic

Absolutely just made up with practically zero knowledge or comprehension of the individual (on my part at least--my client probably knows a lot more than I do!). Although I'm no expert, I think it's unlikely that Twelfth century France was invaded by extras from Lord of tge Rings 😝

Agent Zero

This is NEXT LVL Manic, WOW!

Marston

You can be proud indeed ! Too bad that this peculiar episode wasn't evoked in my history manual at school... :)

Manic

💪💪😁😁

Manic

Verily, he did!

Confidente100

Hehe! Will the commissioner of this work please stand up? XD

Garth Ranzz

I HAVE THE CLEAVAAAAAGE!!

Thomas B.

Confidente, thank you for bringing this up. She most definitely did not have the power of transformation into a literal demigoddess, but my idea, that Manic did so well to convey in art, was the idea of Eleanor being able to access the power of the paladins and other mythic warriors from the medieval heroic poems. It's not so much a fictional series either, but I have been a fan of doing historical commissions in this vein for awhile, though this was the first time I was able to nab a Manic commission and for that I was supremely excited. But I enjoy placing a bit of FMG into the historical realm; Eleanor of Aquitaine, Caterina Sforza, Marie Antoinette and others. All potential queens and rulers waiting to be turned to mighty heroines.

Confidente100

Thank you for standing up, and for your explanation! 🙂

Musical Euphoria

Can imagine the very saints she worships are giving her the holy strength to preserve herself.
