Curse her sudden but inevitable betrayal! Could anyone have possibly see this coming? Yeah, pretty sure we all did. Marcus certainly did. It nicely illustrates the difference between Marcus and Zorian as while the latter was young and inexperienced and almost desperate for allies and confidantes, Marcus is pretty much the opposite. He may have rather lost touch with the common sense of ordinary people but when it comes this kind of thing he's highly seasoned and capable. I almost feel bad for the tree for handing over something that seems so important to someone who definitely isn't on their side. But then I remember it's side was made up of a whole culture of xenocidal maniacs and I stop caring. Funny that. The prison is veeeeeery interesting though. Those dwarves must have been pretty damned advanced before the trees came for them if they managed to capture and imprison beings like that. And here they expected the dragon was the biggest thing to worry about in the vault. This leviathan seems like it might be on the same level as the giant, except it's still alive. I sure hope it's not hostile or our guy is gonna be in real trouble this time. Thanks for the chapter! Can't wait to see what happens next.

A puzzle which stumped so many for centuries took him, what, a few hours?

DiabolicalGenius

Yeah, though he did make it clear that you have to be at least a Microcosm mage to solve it the way he did and those seem to be on the rare side. None of which seemed to have been interested in going to a frozen wasteland to see if they could open that vault before him.
