i havent even finished watching this video yet but ill just say thw true character development of this show is if the couch turns into the bed as the one with the most screen time (¬‿¬)

I can’t say if content was cut because I’ve not read the novels and am way behind these events in the manga version. However, I suppose I didn’t see the run in with Tojo to be contrived except for maybe the timing being very coincidental. He and the other two we see in the flashbacks are the kids that were the reason Amane left his hometown to move to where he lives now. He faced those feelings season 1 at the end when he allowed himself to feel worthy of Mahiru. This was him physically facing that past as well. It was a bit clunky, but I also thought that made it feel pretty real. Those interactions would be clunky if they happened in real life.

i think you might have forgotten the fact that his parents already knew they had a special relationship i mean they were teasing him how girls wouldn't enter a guy's room if they didn't trust him and they even went to new year shrine visit together like a family would and they were already treating mahiru as a daughter not to mention his mom also had mahiru's contact, so they regularly keep in touch with each other as well as his mom sharing amane's pictures of him when he was a child what you said around 1 minute mark would apply to your ordinary roommate, but in her case, they are already close with each other
