Him being a live in husband basically means she's the head of the household. She provides. Thats why she was afraid he'd say no, it means he is subservient to her, when most of the time the girl moves in with her husbands family. A live-in husband wasn't common in China but it did happen, its a matriarchal structure.

It seriously gets better and better and at some point I don't event know how you would be able to stop yourself from watching the next episodes. same.....in a moment of boredom I started episode one on netflix and ended on episode 4. Next day I got to episode 10. Day after that I watched it all day! I finished it in a week. Then rewatched the entire series the week after!

Glad that you’re liking it so far! I love that you are paying attention to details and engaging in a lot of critical thinking. A lot of historical cdramas require a lot of that. But the payoff is amazing.

I started the 1st episode with you but I already finished it 😅 but yayy I get to watch again but slower this time. I tend to miss a few things whenever I binge so there are elements in the show I got confused about. Pretty sure a rewatch would give me more clarity. Excited for the next eps. Also you should definitely try well-cooked offal dishes.

1:34 😂, Joe's face regarding Chinese braised chitlins. I agree, it's an acquired taste. You have to make sure the intestine is cleaned 4 times and more because it started out with doodoo in it 💩. I'm black and Chinese so both my halves make it. Large intestines are the best, especially on a grill, due to it being very fatty, like tube bacon.

The noodles are rice noodles (chow fun. Specifically Hu Fun). The sauce for the meat, I assume is standard soy sauce, sugar, and maybe some shaoxing (in modern times we throw in Oyster sauce or hoisin)
