Ruukasu97

Im still at s3 e7 because i didnt have much time lately but i have to watch this right now, i love all 3 sao movies and last weak they announced that they are producing a 4th movie being an original one like ordinal scale without source material

Ruukasu97

its a reboot of the aincrad arc. a big complaint for many myself included was that aincrad finished so fast so reki made it proper to give you a perspective, The whole alicization arc all 47 episodes were 10 novels progressive is at 9 novels and we are only on floor 7

Ruukasu97

her father retired as ceo of rect when fairy dance (season 1) concluded

Ruukasu97

you saw asunas brother only once at the end of season2 but only his shadow through glass, at that time you thought it was kirito meeting her parents

Ruukasu97

yes thats right, asunas brother got the game but was on a buisness trip so she tried it out. she wasnt a really a gamer but shes very athletic all she really did was work on her career like her mom wanted thats why her biggest concern wasnt that she might die but that she would fail school

So, SAO Progressive light lovel series is extension/alternative version of aincrad arc, that's why in this version Kirito met Asuna before the meeting about floor boss. But the movie made it even more alternative by adding Mito character and the whole Asuna backstory which wasn't in both original or progressive light novel series. And because of it they removed a lot from light novel, for example the character that shows up at the end of this movie.

Ruukasu97

When asuna told kirito mito tried to kill a spry shrewman he asked asuna if she was a rapier user too, meaning he figured out that mito went after it to get a rapier for asuna the thing drops a Wind Fleuret Rapier

Ruukasu97

1:02:02 see that guy behind kibaou with white hair? thats johnny black the guy that poisioned kirito in s3e1 at 1:29:03 you can see him again but this time more clearly

Ruukasu97

he couldnt have drunk the potion, he was already dead but the healthbar wasnt updated yet

Ruukasu97

in the original kirito and asuna split up after the boss fight. They fought together on the front lines who many other but kirito was always a solo player with few exceptions like klein and the moonlit black cats guild where sachi was from They didnt becoem friends since way later on floor 59 here kirito and asuna stay together in a party which i love

Ruukasu97

1:26:14 thats argo in the anime shes only been seen once, shes an info broker she gave kirito the tip with the revive item from the santa boss in episode 3 in the gameverse she had a bigger role and was even playable in some

I forgot if someone posted this on ep1 of sao back in the day or not but here's reddit answer for diavel stuff (the guy that didnt take potion): "As others said, this scene is anime only. Diavel was already dead by the time his body land on the floor, with Kirito even mentioning explicitely in his inner thoughts that he won't even try to go get him a potion because he knows that it's too late. This whole scene is made up. This massive change was part of the anime's attempt to make Diavel look more heroic and noble. The anime altered much of Diavel's background, by omitting the points about him trying to buy Kirito's sword to weaken him, and even making sure that Kirito would be assigned the task of handling the boss's minions to ensure that he would not have the chance of dealing the last attack on the boss. Instead, the anime portrayed Diavel as a selfless heroic knight, though it did show him trying to get the Last Attack on Illfang (but that's not a bad thing per se)."

Back during the episode which had Kirito's "Nightmare" when Rath was reimaging Kirito's fluctlight from Asuna's, Sinon's, Leafa's (and ultimately Eugeo's via the Blue Rose Sword), I mentioned that the Nightmare was different in the LN than it was in the anime, and one of the scenes was where Kirito, on the very first day of the game, was doing a quest that, upon completion, would take him through the first several floors of the game (including upgrades, etc), and I said that he was betrayed by another player named Coper who triggered a trap which flooded the area with monsters, and he was hoping to loot Kirito's body for the required quest items... it was these very same monsters that Asuna and Mito triggered (where Mito abandoned Asuna) that nearly took out Kirito on the very first day. Imagine that, though - Kirito nearly got taken out within the very first few hours of the game because some asshat tried to murder him via "monster-PK" (the term for this kind of player killing in SAO).

It's funny, you mentioning how you think it feels like this movie has retconned Kirito's and Asuna's relationship? What if I told you that in LN volume 1 of the main series, Kirito and Asuna originally didn't meet one another until floor 74? (IIRC it was the infamous rabbit scene at Agil's, so technically they met on floor 50 where his shop is at, but what I mean is the clearing party was on floor 74) There is a reason for this - When Reki Kawahara originally wrote this book, it was submitted for (and won) the Dengeki Bunko prize, and one of the requirements was the novel had to be a completed story (no cliffhangers for a sequel). LN Vol 1 included first day activities before starting the game, training Klein, Kayaba hijacking the game, trapping the players, and Kirito leaving... and then the novel skipped all the way to the scene of Kirito running across the rabbit on floor 74. So yes, the entire series has had a total history of Asuna and Kirito's relationship being retconned (among other details). It's honestly one of my major complaints about the series - he doesn't respect the canon of his series and is willing to retcon anything and everything if it's convenient for him.

One final thing: In volume 28 (Unital Ring VII - the most current volume in the EN LN translation), Misumi Tozawa (Mito) was finally introduced into the LN series... with one caveat: despite looking exactly like Mito, being Asuna's school friend, and having played SAO, she's not exactly the same Mito in the movies... as in she didn't train Asuna in the basics of SAO, nor did she betray her (I'm not even necessarily sure she even went by the name Mito) What Tozawa was known for was an armorcrafter in a shop neighboring Lisbeth's weapon shop on floor 51(?), and she went by the name Ashley... and she was the one that crafted the final gear athat Kirito and Asuna wore in the endgame. It was kind of a mindbreak when that was revealed in Vol 28 - we knew about Ashleigh for more than a decade... but we never knew he was going to tie it in to Mito.

I lied - that "who are you" is someone you briefly met before in S1 (won't say where to not spoil, but it was fairly early)... and she's an absolute favorie of those that have read the Progressive series (including me)

I think youre confusing SAO with Accel World because SAO got rejected for being to long and reki then wrote accel world and won the dengeki bunko prize.

M4I3X

The start of SAO with the main series and progressive is a bit confusing but the progressive story is canon. The author wrote progressive for the anime studio so they can do a proper adaptation because volume 1 of the main series lacked quite a bit of information specifically for the beginning. But a lot of the stuff we got in this movie isnt just made-up, its all canon and in reality the anime changed it back in 2012 to fit it better into the first 14 episodes. Its easier to think of this movie as the real first episode^^ tbh i like this development of their relationship better.
