The political stuff and names get so confusing, but you're actually doing pretty good in figuring out things and putting names on faces

Carbon

I believe Changyu’s town is called Lin’an, and it’s in the boundary of Jizhou which is General He’s territory.

Peppermint

I'm so excited to waking up to this post. Haha I waited when I saw it was posted yesterday, also shoutout from my hubby you saved him from morning house projects. XD

Birth Name (from birth and official - Xie Zheng), Courtesy Name (given upon adulthood, used by family and friends - Xie Jiuheng), and Honorary Name (given by Emperor - Marquis of Wu'an)

Cheng means city and Zhou means prefecture which is larger than a county but smaller than a state. Changyu lives in Xigu Alley which is on outskirts of Lin'an. Lin'an is a small city in Jizhou. 4 prefectures has been mentioned Jizhou, Jinzhou, Chongzhou and Yanzhou. Jizhou has Lin'an and the city of Lucheng. In ep 9 Lord Li said "Governor" He rode to Lucheng to defend the pass. This is where General He talked with Wei's son. Jinzhou is where Zheng got attcked, fell in the river and drifted to Jizhou. Zheng said he was secretly investigating a 16 year old Jinzhou case in ep 8. Grand Tutor Li spoke about how Zheng's father died in the battle of Jinzhou more than a decade ago and Chanellor Wei replied with something something 16 years ago. Chongzhou is Prince Chongxie's area. General He said that Prince Chongxie fled back there after fighting with Zheng. Yanzhou is where Marquis Wu'an's army is. The emperor called it the Xie army, but Councellor Wei refers it as Yanzhou army. Which is currently led by his son. Also, Lord Li sent the drawing of Zheng to Yanzhou for confirmation.

Dilmurod

No, Chongzhou, Prince Changxin’s territory, is not a different nation. It is still part of Dayin, so it is more like a civil war or rebellion than a war against another country.

ANOTHER episode?! But yeah I think you’re understand pretty well st the moment. Pronunciation is good too 👍 I’m glad you pay attention and catch on quick. But I think a lot of people mentioned earlier too but, Prince Changxin in a current prince in Dayin. He’s basically a rebel prince trying to overthrow the current dynasty.

Dana

Yeah. A lot of costume cdramas with nobles (and that's basically almost all of them) have characters with 2 or 3 names. It can get confusing.

FWIW I have a foul mouth too so be as vulgar as you want! I love the Zhao's being completely not subtle about spying on Zheng and Changyu! I don't think him asking about her parents is any worse than talking about heating up food or feeding the falcon. Zheng was still a kid when he lost his parents and he was then raised by his uncle (the chancellor) so he's referring to his uncle meaning him harm, because that's who he suspects is behind his assassination attempt on the battlefield when he was shot with the arrow. My brother and I got smacked with an open hand or a belt if we got in trouble as kids. If we swore it was hot english mustard straight on the tongue or the threat of having our mouth washed out with soap. More god damn fucking assassins! Inspector Li who saved Changyu from the assassins has another name too, but it will be another couple of episodes before its revealed I think. He is also related to Grand Tutor Li, who is his grandfather. One thing I've noticed in the different historical style dramas that I've watched over the years. In Turkish shows they will heat a dagger or sword and close open wounds by burning the flesh. But in Chinese shows they seem to just leave the wounds open to heal on their own with time and maybe some teas or powders applied directly to the wound. The magistrate and his sidekick are crooked remember so he is trying to find an excuse to lock Changyu up by concocting some bullshit about worshipping the Marquis. But you're right she did create the spirit tablet when she thought he'd fallen on the battlefield. The magistrate is what we in Australia would call a SUCK UP. He wants to gain favour with anyone he can by any means he can. General He is another one of those weird to pronounce names. I can't remember exactly how it's pronounced but it's not an 'e' sounding name it's more of an 'uh' sounding name. He is Zheng's military instructor from when he was young, who we've seen him sparring with in flashbacks. When someone studies back during the Dynastic era of China art was one of the things they studied as it was considered one of the core principles of Confucianism. Madam Kang is the woman who is always badmouthing Changyu behind her back. She does redeem herself a bit eventually. Wei Xuan is an arrogant little shithead who thinks he's entitled to everything simply because of who his father is. He reminds me a lot of Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter. Prince Changxin is related to the current emperor through the previous emperor. Chongzhou is a different region of the country that everyone else is in called Dayin. The people Grand Tutor Li is referring to are the ones lost in the battle 16 years ago and Chancellor Wei said that both Wei and Xie family members died on that battlefield. Grand Tutor Li is basically mocking him because his son is such a loose cannon. Wenkan is Inspector Li's courtesy name given to him by his master General He

Jordan

And i want to say yan zheng is his childhood pet name… the name only his parents would call him

Jordan

Just a fun fact about the ministers hats (the caps with the long sticks in either ends) were to prevent officials from gossiping in court 😂 no one is more gossipy and petty than court officials 😂

Jordan

Also for li (daren) li hui’an, he also has a million and one names. But also bc he is “undercover”. So his birth name is li hui’an and i think his courtesy name (from his master) is wenkan

Jordan

And please dont worry about always getting every single side character right 😂 it seems to take like 10-12 episodes to finally settle everyone into a place 😂 i can agree that i also was so confused at first when he jingyuan and li hui’an were talking. Three “new” characters in one scene really messed with my brain 😂😂 and i had absolutely no idea what they were talking about at first

Stephen Fontana

When you finish this series, I would recommend you look up the series " Who Rules the World" with Zhou Lusi.

DryLtd

A proper recommendation. Not too old (aka less than 50+ episodes), easily accessible, contains fighting and romance. Nice

Brickland

Man, this series should be renamed to Pursuit of Recovery. It's gonna take this whole 40 episodes for him to recover.

SJ

Please bring the wild shit comments 😂

Chiyo Kaze

But did you notice that in some dramas the higher the official the longer the sticks were 😂
