Hmm I don't seem to understand late divorce kids. My mom was seperate from that guy that participated in making me from before I could think. And that was fine. It is hard to imagine having such issues from a parents divorce. Or to care about the other chick so much. I think Umi has a hard time with Maki. She has to wait so long for him to really admit his feelings.

obviously it wouldn't be an issue if you're parents are divorced before you can think. You have no attachment to that family unit. thats like saying "I don't get why people whose moms die when they are 13 are upset. My mom died at my birth and i never knew her and it didn't bother me".

Ok seriously, why the hate for the dad. In the divorce agreement, I'm not sure how Japanese family courts are but if they are anything like America's they are fucked. He gets once a month visitation and you are saying fuck you for taking him to fancy restaurants because he, "doesn't care". I think you are underselling Japanese work culture as well.
