I've started watching this it's pretty good so far. Dylan Wang does such a good job as the MC. There's also the guy who played Mr Zhao and the mother from Perfect Match, and the guy who played Dongfang's younger brother Xunfeng from Fair and Devil.

Reset is a great sci-fi thriller that is only 15 episodes long. I think it is a pretty great palate clenser like you mentioned. I tend to be very specific with my thrillers, as i hate it when there are plot holes and unanswered questions, i think they did a very good job of cleanly wrapping everything up.

The Sui brothers are friggin psychopaths. And that plot armor is on par with the MCs. I also feel really sad for most of the Xigu Alley characters. When I was watching this ep, I felt so hollow after. I like how they showed us all of it in the show though. Most of these characters were prominent enough so we know how Changyu values them so we know how absolutely gut-wrenching it would be for her to find out they're dead.

In C-Dramaland , falling off a cliff will only produce recoverable injuries. Serious stories send someone down the cliff to finish the job. If a story has people believe they are dead without going down. It is not a serious story.

A truly tear jerking episode and a game changer for the narrative of the series. The Qi brothers further reveal their sick evil core natures. Either would be a disaster if one became Emperor. The loss of the finely etched characters in Changyu's hometown marks a sfhift in focus both in Changyu and the plot of the series. As for the avian character, this is not a mere white bird but a falcon with great eyesight. The Marquis like many nobles is a falconer. While falcons have a sense of smell, their ability to track like a dog is a dramatic liberty. This falcon is actually a puppet while on the ground. A search on the Internet gives one a further illustration . Medically, in Asian cultures, a person's health can be determined merely by the quality of their pulse. Chinese medicine also is governed by meridians in the body. This is quite a heart breaking yet pivotal episode of the series.

no matter how many times i watch this episode, it's still so hard to stomach. I feel so much sadness but more so anger that the right to live was robbed from these people. I felt so helpless. As much as granny Kang annoyed us, i couldn't help but just be sad for her because she really was trying her best to live her life with what she was given. and yeahhhh cliff falling is a cdrama trope fndjkfnkjsd, when used well though, it's great!!! As for types of cdrama, since POJ is a wuxia-romance (martial arts) you can try the Wuxia without romance like Mysterious Lotus Casebook(2023) , there's also a cousin genre called xianxia (high fantasy, usually with romance) like Love in the Clouds( 2025) that also made a decent name for itself in the west. Also a few slice-of-life, melodrama shows were great in the cdrama scene like Go Ahead (2020). I don't wanna throw too much info at you though. but the cdrama hole goes deep. There's so much good stuff out there.

The weird like 5 second shot of a bloody pov going up over the ruined town is supposed to be pov of the magistrate being hung and pulled up. Pretty chilling when you realize it.

Agree. It's a really good world building drama and the romance is not the main plot. It also stars my favorite female Cdrama actress Bai Lu, and she's a badass in this drama.

I really liked that drama but I was also so annoyed by her character. 2nd Princess is the worst character I've seen in a long time. Do we want him to hate her after he just watched her as Changyu? 😂🤣

You can try watching Fated Hearts if you want more action/ politics than romance. That was one of the only 2 dramas I watched after POJ that got me hooked. I was suffering because I watched a lot of cdramas but I couldn't get into them like I did with POJ except for Fated Hearts. For me, the romance there was just a bonus. My boyfriend liked Fated Hearts, and he likes action packed dramas, so I'm assuming you would love it too.

"The longest day in Chang'an" is a political historical drama with no romance. It also has really good cinematography, great action and is historically accurate for the time period it's set in.
