I think there's 1 difference compared to Ed. Kreutz was just entirely malevolent, because he'd probably prefer to cut Will to pieces to get access to his magic. Meanwhile, Ed is this series' equivalent of Snape. He wanted to prevent Will from advancing, because he knew Will would be exposed to assholes like Kreutz. Ed knew that he was doing something bad to Will, but he did so because he wanted to protect Will from someone who would do much worse.

Yes, it's stupid in the grand scheme of things, but there's at least a little logic to the approach that people like Ed or Kreutz are taking - insofar as The Tower is 100% about magic, and nothing else. So even if Will could, like, snap his fingers and wipe out half the world, if it wasn't done with magic then it doesn't really matter because studying in The Tower is pointless for him and the mages around him. He simply doesn't belong there because it's a magic-focused place. It'd be like sending the best player in a sport to the best law school in the country. It's not really useful for either side. Of course, we as the audience know Will is the MC and could likely duo everyone in the room with a little help from Elfie so like...yeah, we're on his side.

I feel like we should just go into each episode with the thought, “OK, how are they gonna fuck over Will this time?” That way when they actually don’t it’s a happy surprise.

I like to compare Kreutz to Mayuuri... without any of the aspects that make Mayuuri likeable. Whereas Mayuuri actuall has *some* care for for his subordinates and has respect for his superiors, Kreuts would experiment on the magia vander themselves if he were powerful enough to get away with it.

This isn't going to be a popular answer with Joe, but simply put, Will hasn't demonstrated the ability to use his own magic and instead is borrowing everyone else's magic for his own attacks. I get the furstration because it's the same thing over and over again, but it's what gives Kreutz the ability to keep Will away from the Magia Vander and allows him to do whatever he wants with him (whatever that may be). But of course this isn't even spoiler, it's common sense at this point, Will is going to figure out how to use Wis on command (and Julius isn't terribly far off base, which is one of the reasons why he really won me over in this arc), and Kreutz is going to end up with egg on his face, and it'll be on to the next obstacle Will has to overcome. BTW, on a personal note, I can't wait until we finally get to see Kreutz shit his pants when he learns that it's Mercedes' descendent - if not direct descendent (son) - that he's been trying to eff with.
