to add some much needed context for the dinner scene: it’s shown in the manga, but maki’s dad started going out with his assistant ONE MONTH after his divorce. maki asks “do you love minato?” and he vaguely answers. maki feels that his dad just left their family and immediately moved on with somebody else. he only sees him once a month because he’s “busy”, but he has time for the new girlfriend.

Capt'n Ren

The once a month thing was probably decided by the divorce court. They often make decisions like that based on the parents situations at the time of divorce. It sucks, and it does tend to be biased in the mother's favor.

To be fair to Maki, in the last episode his Dad said haven't seen you since before summer break and its almost Christmas. So he hasn't seen his kid in months

Nina's dud bomb is meant to be a metaphor for not being able to let out stress. (Preferrenced by her family situation of fighting and making up). Like his dad not being able to vent to fix things and talk to his mom, she sees that Maki is about to experience the same thing by holding his feelings in. Hence why she tells him to talk to Yuu and Umi. As for Maki, he is pretending like he is above all of the divorce stuff and holding back his feelings which is why he overreacted and said his dad isn't family anymore.

hes a kid whos seen his mom say she still loves his dad even after the divorce and sees her look stressed, smokling and lacking sleep. Meanwhile the dad looks fine and has another woman in his life. He probably doesnt know how to proccess it and feels betrayed and bad for his mom. End of the day hes a kid so his lash out makes sense ig since he bottles everything up.

I was really worried there for some moments - that they might create drama by Umi seeing him with the red haired girl while he is supposed to be meeting his dad and we would have big jealousy. I am glad they didn't do that.

more context: it's stated that Maki's dad has to move around a lot for his job, far enough away that Maki had to regularly switch schools and couldn't just commute. Meanwhile Minato is his direct subordinate so she would also always move to the same places that Maki's dad moves to. That doesn't mean he is blowing of Maki when he would have the time to meet.

Lukas

it's also mentioned that Maki's dad has to move around a lot for work so for all we know it could have just been that Maki's dad had been living in Okinawa. That doesn't suggest that Maki's dad is purposefully avoiding him.

Even if he’s not in the same city he still couldn’t see his son once a month

we have no idea where he was. for all we know, he was in Naha or Hakodate, both of which don't have a direct Shinkansen line to tokyo. And even if he had a direct line, if he was in Kagoshima, for example, thats still a 5 hour train ride one way. They mention he is busy even by japanese standards so he might be working 70-80 hours a week.
