In ancient China, traditions are heavily respected. No doubt in modern society even China, it is not strictly adhered to. So it is understandable we might not understand it. especially for Western audience. As a Chinese, though I do not personally strictly adhere to traditions, I do understand and respect that mentality in ancient times as it is ultimately my roots.

So yeah, they have a bad relationship but you can tell that Wei Yan has a huge respect for Xie Zheng, the way we have seen him in the past thinking at him as a child, the way he looks at him and the way he told him that he raised him to become the future of their family, like his son's hate is pretty understandable, we only saw Wei Yan giving him tired looks😂 It's also pretty obvious that he really loved his sister so while Xie Zheng believed that he hated him because he ate that cake, Wei Yan was most likely feeling guily and acted cold as a cover, he had taken both of his parents away from him.

I kept saying, especially towards the end, if only Qi Min meeting QianQian had turned him good, she probably wouldve stayed. But bc he was such a psycho, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with him 🤦🏻‍♀️ the actors have SUCH good chemistry, i hope they get a drama for themselves one day with a happy ending! Also, fun fact i had learned watching promos for this show… (backstory) the actress for QianQian is named “Snow Kong” or “Kong Xueer”, she was on an idol survival show called Youth With You, and made it to the top 9 and got to debut in a CPOP group called THE9. Well apparently when it was airing, the actor who played Qi Min was one of her Fan Boys!! 😂😂 he even said he had voted for her multiple times! (The show did audience votes)

Filling in some character things, i still have no idea who the consort is 😂😂 i just know she isnt the wife… it seems like something tragic happened just because of the letter and how sullen wei yan seems whenever he “remembers”. Im still not sure where in the royal family she was ranked, if anyone knows please fill me in! 😂😂 like she isnt qi min’s mom… right? I dont think so, but then WHO IS SHEEE 😂😂

I love the headress with pheasant feathers. It signifies bravery and sticking with the fight no matter what with the general. This helmit with feathers was in an earlier scene on the Marquis' desk. There are Internet videos of Zhange Linghe posing with these feathers off set. Then on Tik Tok you can see cute videos of folks spoofing this with same music and their dogs. In real life often there are separate fan groups of each of the lead actors and they argue who is better. This will come into play regarding real fans in who they handled the narrative in the future.

Deng Kai the actor who plays Qi Min had been stuck in supporting roles for a while. He had previously worked with the director, who urgently needed someone to step in after the originally cast actor abruptly dropped out. He fully committed to the sudden opportunity, signing on only a few weeks before filming started, famously losing 7 kilograms and undergoing gruelling preparation (including spending hours in icy conditions) to get into character.

i cried when xie zheng was saying all the most beautiful words about changyu like ohmygosh that is so romantic 😭 if your theory of changyu being wei yan's child is true, i would have dropped it bec then they are cousins lol that could totally happen tho (spoiler *they are not* spoiler) qi rongyin (imperial consort) is part of qi clan, same clan as crown prince chende (qi yuan), qi min, qi sheng (current emperor), and qi shu (princess) ☺️ wei yan stopped being affectionate to xie zheng when his parents died, he did raise him, favors him but doesn't actually show it to him, so his son (wei xuan) can see he favors him, but xie zheng cannot see it for himself, wei yan not wanting with changyu bec he still feeding the lies that wei qilin is a traitor therefore cannot marry her since her father was the cause of zheng's father's death (we all know that it's bs) anyways, again very glad you are enjoying the show ♥️

I think the lashing stands for death. A foundational legend from Chinese culture is the story of Nezha. He had disagreements with his father. And in order to break the bond with his father, he killed himself, returning his life to his parents. Then he was resurrected by a god and officially became an enemy to his father. And here Zheng took lashing because Changyu was daughter of the man who caused his father’s death, not because he was disobeying his uncle.

One of the themes in this show is that blind filial piety leads to ruin. One must have his own judgement. Songyan followed his mother blindly and it lead to everything unraveling for him. Li Huaian is caught in between honoring his grandfather's wishes and going his own way. We will see what choice he makes in the end. Gongsun and Princess Qi Shu is very much a mirror of Wei Yan and consort Qi Rongyin, where the former had the self determination to go against their familial duty and the latter did not. Xie Zheng goes the furthest and cuts his filial ties to his uncle, suffering the 108 lashes, but unshackles him to go his own way. Even Changyu had her bit with going against her uncle to win the inheritance over her house.

Why do people bring up episode counts? We live in the world of binge watching. I have seen people react to Breaking Bad and the Sopranos full. I have seen people watch Black Clover and One Piece straight through. Outside of the business of creating reaction content and not wanting to commit to a low viewed show it always sounds odd to me. Normal people mentioning episode counts is just madness.

Qi Rongyin was Wei Yan's childhood sweetheart and fiancee. But for political reasons, she became the Emperor's consort, ending their relationship. She was one of the wives, but not the main wife (Empress). Here's a family tree. For Illustration, let's call the Emperor from 2 emperors ago, Emperor 1. Emperor 1 - Emperor 2, first son of Emperor 1 - Crown Prince Chengde, first son of Emperor 2, son of Empress - Qi Min, son of Crown Prince Chengde and the Crown Princess - Bao'er, son of Qi Min and Qianqian - Qi Sheng (current emperor), son of one of the lower wives/concubines of the Emperor - Sui Tuo (Prince Changxin), younger brother of Emperor 2 - Sui Yuanhai (the prince that died in the fire that Qi Min took the identify of) - Sui Yuanqing (younger son, the heir) Emperor 2 was the one that Wei forced to abdicate and was replaced by Qi Sheng, brother of Prince Chengde. So Qi Cheng is actually Qi Min's uncle. Qi Rongyin's connection to the massacre 17 years ago is yet to be revealed. So I don't want to spoil it. But suffice it to say that Wei Yan was originally loyal to the throne and had no desire for power until Qi Rongyin's death, which served as a catalyst for Wei Yan's villain arc.

Gongsan had to kneel for 3 days just to be with the princess, Zheng got 108 lashes to be with Changyu. His uncle's son could barely handle the 18 he got as punishment lol. I feel like Qian loves and hates Qi Min. It makes it confusing. Because I think no matter what she might feel for him, it doesn't outweigh his bad.
