Turns out the travel guide and the side detour they took is an Easter egg refers to another C-drama (My Heroic Husband, directed by the same director) where Geng's romantic travel guide led the characters to rundown locations. Geng in that show was played by the same actor for Wei Liang, the scene of them standing in front of the outhouse in this episode looks similar to a scene in that show.

I thought there must have been some connection between the two shows, like the same director or writer. Thanks for confirming. BTW, My Heroic Husband is also a good show, not as great as Prisoner of Beauty, but still very good. It's about a modern CEO transmigrated to Song Dynasty period as a live-in husband and introduced modern business practices to his wife's family business.

Overlord

now that's a c-drama i havent seen being mentioned in a while. watched it because the main character's actor also played in joy of life and enjoyed it thoroughly. also @CA i would put it above prisoner of beauty personally

It also says a lot how much power Wei Shao was willing to give to manman without hesitation. She was able to have more involvement with personal matters that involve wei.

I keep saying it. There are NO KINGS These are all warlords. This is based on the warring states period. The Han Dynasty collapsed, and then for 200 years seven warlords fought over the Empire (one of the major ones was the Weis), none of them had the central authority to Govern, so they relied on military might to control what they could. Local leaders were were constantly under different clans- they naturally had no allegiance to any warlord, why would they? Why would this guy see Wei and different than the other clans? This was a protracted generational civil war with territory and cities constantly swapping hands. It was 200 years before someone gathered authority to create the next United Empire and that wasn't the Weis.

Of course this series romanticises theWei Clan. They are the heroes, we as viewers understand this. But Im just giving historical context, local leaders are naturally not going to be thrilled at the third or fourth warlord turning up and throwing their weight around when they actually had no formal authority other than the sword. Nobody is sitting on the Dragon Throne and has the mandate of heaven. Nobody is going to roll out the metaphorical red carpet, that is the challenges the Warlords are dealing with constantly.

The tiny puddle that was supposed to be a hot spring reminds me so much of the ankle deep hot spring in Frieren where they had to climb mountains and battle monsters just to get to this disapointing 'hot spring'
