I think the fact that it’s so degenerate and disgusting is what makes it funny, they didn’t overly censor stuff or tone things down like you’d expect them to, they made it knowing this is what makes it funny and not just being disgusting for the sake of it, it doesn’t take itself seriously.

It’s crazy how much they subvert your expectations of the landlord. He has that stereotypical bad guy/“ugly bastard” appearance that almost all degenerate perverts in anime tend to have though he still is very much a perv Despite that, he’s genuinely one of the kindest and least prejudiced people in the show. In this episode alone, you see him being extremely lenient about rent, doing community service, and helping clean up the park. After having a microwave dropped on him, instead of trying to get back at Yani, he uses the opportunity to teach her about the dangers of smoking and even recommends a workshop to help her quit. Even after Yani sticks what is basically poison to humans onto his head, he yells at her, immediately feels guilty about it, and then apologizes to her, all while being slowly poisoned by her. And then after she keeps messing up the work she's supposed to do he goes out to buy her snacks He’s probably one of the few people who are so accommodating toward beastfolk, since the world, from what we’ve seen so far, is very prejudiced against them. Especially for one who live at the margins of society like Yani and her friends
