First Frost and Hidden Love are like companion dramas that live in the same universe with the same characters (albeit different actors). Watching them together might be good.

As much as they are all amazing shows, I hope Hidden Love or First Frost wins. I think it would be better to watch a show in the modern era instead of another historical one

Love in the clouds even though costume drama, it is not historical but fantasy. Hence the genre is different compared to POJ and POB. I would be completely okay with Hidden Love or First Frost as well as they are also among my top favorites. Like many said, its really difficult to choose.

I feel like you might not love The First Frost or Hidden Love- just based off my observation on what you have watched and enjoyed. Personally I did not like either bc its so slow paced. I tried watching them multiple times and couldnt get into it

I'm actually currently watching the first frost and hidden love. They are good too but since I'm more into Wuxia, stories about court politics with action scenes, I really lean towards Fated Hearts. I tried watching Love in the Clouds, it was good too but I guess I'm not really into Xanxia or fantasy series. Either way, these are all good choices.

Love in the clouds should win but if it is a first time watching chinese fantasy dramas researching terms might help as it did me!!! there is a whole mythology around some of the terms used that made te story richer for me

i would prefer hidden love first and first frost after since its like a sequel and events in hidden love happen first, although there are virtually no spoilers the actor change kinda throws you off.

since LITC seems to be winning the poll, you need to prepare that fantasy genre in chinese drama are high fantasy, they are not like kdrama with nine-tailed fox or grim reaper, at least LITC doesn’t have 3 realm in it, cultivation, tribulation, etc, which i think is a good start, but do prepare yourself bec if politics in historical can be a bit confusing, fantasy (xianxia) cdrama are another level, but you watch so many animes I feel like you can get into this pretty smoothly

Hidden Love (HL) and The First Frost (TFF) are from the same universe, but I dont think you would enjoy HL because it so "fluffy and cute". TFF is way better (imo) and also has a deeper/darker story than HL.

It's unfortunate It's always the same kind of dramas making the round on every channel. I personally think those modern dramas are too slow and boring with nothing exciting happening. The other two are fantasy but the leads are childish or have no personality. Only one is ok but too much like the two you watched already. I think you should watch the trailers from each one and decide before putting them on a poll.

Even though costume drama is my favorite genre, I am going to vote for The First Frost. Reason being, Joe has watched 2 costume dramas (76 episodes in total) in a row. That's a heavy dose of costume cdrama for someone who has not watched any before. I wouldn't want him to get sick of them by committing to 36 episodes (that would be 12 weeks based on his current viewing schedule) of another costume drama. The First Frost, being a modern drama, could be a palate cleanser before he takes on another cdrama. I love his reactions to cdrama and I hope he keeps doing them. I don't want him to OD on 1 genre and stop doing them.

Agreed with the idea of the trailers, I like all the dramas in the pool are good. So regardless which one win I’ll see the reactions but for future polls that’s a good advice

I actually found LITC less confusing than POJ… all the characters and the fact that they had multiple names was a bit overwhelming. 😝 and I agree, his experience with anime will definitely help.

I’m going to play “Joe’s advocate” here… he did at one point mention maybe a drama without romance… since that’s obviously not going to happen with these choices (lol), I’m kinda glad that one that isn’t completely centered around romance is winning. Yes, it’s costume… but it’s FANTASY. I think Joe’s extensive anime background will help with that and he may love it even more than POJ and POB because of it. 🤷‍♀️ Regardless though, all 5 are great and I’d rewatch all of them!

that is LITC is high key one of the most simple fantasy genre cdrama you will be able to watch, POJ deals as more of historical therefore the nuances of names can be confusing and lost in translation, my first one is Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, and that is very much confusing, it deals with 3 realm, tribulations, and cultivation, it’s the most confusing I have been even as book reader

I feel like out of all of them and based on what you have said Love in the Clouds seems like the drama you would enjoy most of out this list and its is an absolutely amazing drama as well, I loved it so much. It definitely is different to Pursuit of Jade and Prisoner of Beauty as both were more war and politics based with martial arts, which is known as 'Wuxia' dramas/genre, whist Love in the Clouds is a 'Xianxia' drama. (Can look that up if you would like or not to go in blind again). Which I will also say as someone who enjoys Wuxia dramas more than Xianxia ones, I still absolutely loved Love in the Clouds just as much which actually surprised me and is why I think you will also enjoy it. I also feel it has slightly more light-hearted and funny moments compared to the previous c-dramas you have watched, with just as good as a plot and serious moments.

yeah it would be great if non romance focused dramas like Reset, Nirvana in Fire, Joy of Life etc. also made it in to the polls. But during recommendations, they didnt make it even to the top 10 in popularity.

I honestly don't often see the difference between recent fantasy romance or costume romance, and lot of historical romance isn't that accurate anyways and focuses on the romance and the fantasy is just basically people dressed up in Song Dynasty costumes (it's always Song dynasty, nobody is going to go with mongolian or manchurian fashion because Han dominance amirite, *shut up, Dana nobody here cares about how politics influences the arts*) with the same feudalism but it with extra flying, a couple of bad cgi monsters and cultivation energy rays. What really is the difference ? And there are good fantasy dramas, but these ain't it.

I loved Hidden Love but couldn't get through First Frost, don't feel the shows are on the same level. All the other shows listed are awesome and some of my favs, would love to see those reactions.
